Join us in our mission! Metrum Research Group is seeking an Applied Data Scientist who will play a vital role in the programmatic application of data processing, analysis, and reporting methods to support scientific insights.
Responsibilities:
- Develop efficient and effective data processing strategies to support biomedical science
- Extract, format, and program analysis data sets from a variety of data input sources and formats
- Conduct exploratory graphical and tabular analyses aimed at forming preliminary insights
- Program figures and tables for science team deliverables
- Develop interactive scientific applications, primarily in the R shiny framework, to drive high-quality quantitatively-driven decisions.
- Participate in advanced research as part of client-facing scientific services project teams

Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience with scripting languages such as R or Python.
- Familiarity with the R programming language, and willingness to become proficient in R
- Familiarity with version control systems such as git.
- Experience in collaborating across teams, with scientists and less technical users
- A strong drive to learn and share learnings with others.
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and deploying R Shiny apps, or experience with similar software for creating interactive dashboards and visualizations.
- Experience supporting or doing scientific work, ideally in the life sciences.
- Professional experience with version control systems such as git.
- Experience developing and releasing software packages/libraries/modules, ideally in R.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Statistics required.
- Master's/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Statistics preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 1-5 years of data science and/or programming experience
Physical Demands
The job frequently requires working at a computer terminal, standing or sitting, and the ability to operate the computer with proficiency.
Work Environment
The work environment is quiet with no adverse conditions.
