Applications Engineer Estimator (Direct Hire)
The Application Engineer III position offers an opportunity to contribute to the success of the company and deliver custom solutions to clients in the gas compression industry. The Application Engineer is expected to manage multiple reciprocating gas compressor package quotes simultaneously, while meeting all deadlines and maintaining company standards for quality and customer service.
- Location: Waller, TX 77484
- Schedule: Monday – Friday (In office) 8am – 5pm.
- Salary: $110K - $125K DOE
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Account Managers to develop a quote strategy for each sales opportunity.
- Develop optimal and economical compressor package solutions to meet customer’s request.
- Identify critical concerns that may impact design, package costs, engineering, manufacturing, and risk.
- Use various applications, sizing tools, and resources to assist in the creation of a custom compressor package
- solution based on the customer’s specifications and requirements.
- Collaborate with all departments within the company to establish a viable solution.
- Procure quotations for the various components needed to build the compressor package.
- Build estimates using updated material cost, labor hours and procured quotations.
- Read, interpret, and comment on customer specifications.
- Participate in the development of technical and commercial proposals.
- Take part in estimate margin review meetings to discuss the opportunity to establish a sales price and delivery.
- Maintain knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the products in the global market.
- Maintain customer relationships and participate in client clarification meetings.
- Review purchase orders documentation against the proposal and estimate to validate accuracy.
- Organization the initial hand off meeting to the project execution team.
- Maintain department tools and resources.
- Assist with training new Application Engineering employees.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in Application Engineering in compression manufacturing, or engineering experience in packaging reciprocating compressors or similar business.
- Experienced and proficient with high pressure, H2S or C02 applications.
- Experienced and proficient with projects involving engineering firms and midstream companies.
- Experienced and proficient with all sizes and configurations of gas compressor packages.
Skills/Core Competencies:
- Proficient in computer software, such as MS Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Time management skills including multi-tasking and prioritizing projects as needed.
- Ability to problem solve and generate alternative solutions.
- Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset and willingness to learn.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of
- personnel, demonstrating respect for confidentiality, commercial sensitivity, and company liability.
- Ability to work well with others in a high-stress and fast-paced environment.
- Detailed understanding of engines, electric motors, reciprocating compressors, thermodynamics,
- instrumentation, and controls.
- Experience with: Ariel compressor sizing software, Caterpillar’s GERP software, Waukesha’s Eng Calc software, Relief valve sizing and Vessel and pipe sizing.
- Working knowledge of ASME, API, NEC, ISO, OSHA, DOT specifications and guidelines.
