This Motion Applications Engineer position is located in Waukegan, IL. In this role you will provide technical support to high-tech distributors and users of Servo and Motion Control products, assisting customers in a wide variety of industry applications and creatively contribute innovative ways to add value to the company and its customers, using sharp analytical skills to research and understand application objectives to solve challenging problems.
The successful candidate will display a driven attitude and capacity towards learning and mastering motion automation technology, and applying practical engineering knowledge learned at the university.
Requirements:
- Four year BS degree in electrical, mechanical, computer engineering, or mechatronics.
- New graduate to 3 years field experience or equivalent involving competitor product lines or OEM using servo technology applications, and projects;
- Experience in PLC programming and languages such as C++, C#, VB, or Python.
- Familiarity with IEC-61131 programming concept and PLCopen standards is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical field test equipment such as oscilloscope, voltmeter, vibration g-force analyzer).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including technical writing and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with networks is desirable, such as RS232/485, DeviceNet, Modbus/TCP, ProfiNet, Sercos, Ethernet/IP, EtherCat and network evaluation tools such as WireShark software.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong organization skills and strong time management with a team approach.
The Motion Application Engineering group engages in many activities which make the job interesting and non repetitive. Some detailed job responsibilities include:
- Become well versed with all Servo, Motion Control, and Machine Control products and lab equipment, and achieve certification to the ASC level (Servo, Motion Control)
- Become experienced in Tuning Servo Loop Gains (Position and Speed)
- Become experienced with Electrical Noise analysis, grounding and shielding techniques;
- Provide technical expertise to assist customers in the use of their application and industry processes of Yaskawa products and services to exceed customer needs
- Support application projects from concept to completion: Channel Partners/Distributors (VAR/ASC/MSC), OEM, End Users, System Integrators, Key Accounts
- Answer product and application questions from customers: Channel Partners/Distributors (VAR/ASC/MSC), Sales, OEM’s, End Users, and System Integrators
- Develop software based template code and functional modules for solution libraries and solution packages
- Assist field service, phone technical support, and repair groups with the diagnosis and repair of electrical equipment at the customers’ site
- Solve application installation problems over the telephone or by visiting the customer site;
- Support product and application projects from other Yaskawa business divisions
- Research, document, and recommend solutions for product enhancements on quality control issues
- Assist product engineering and development with testing of new products, options, and software
