Responsibilities:Reporting to the Director or Manager, Practice, the Supervisor, NP/PA is responsible for supervising Physician Assistant (PA) and/or Nurse Practitioner (NP) s and/or other clinical staff within the practice area. The Supervisor will have administrative oversight over multiple geographic locations under the same medical discipline. The Supervisor oversees all daily clinic operations, schedules for clinic and hospital work, time off requests minimizing interruptions in patient access, monitors staffing, tracks staff development, productivity and quality outcomes and addresses issues with staff and patients. This will be a working supervisor under this clinical area of the practice however is a member of the management team with first line responsibility for hiring, orientation, appraisals, time management, coaching, disciplining and training, monitoring CME approvals/denials and other educational programs. The Supervisor will keep the Manager/Director apprised on issues involving operations, work flow, customer satisfaction and employee relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high schedule utilization within the clinic. The Supervisor, must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks; to work effectively in both independent and team environments; to work at many levels within the DMG organization; to be organized with attention to detail and follow through; to have excellent computer skills; possess diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills; have an ability to problem solve, think creatively and possess a strong sense of urgency.
Clinical Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a collaborative physician, and practice manager, the Supervisor, NP/PA provides medical care to patients within a detailed scope of practice. The scope of practice identifies the range of clinical modalities and protocols agreed upon between the PA/NP and collaborative physician. Within the ambulatory care setting, under the collaborative physician and scope of practice, the PA/NP completes physicals; orders diagnostic and therapeutic modalities: e.g., laboratory, x-ray, EKG, etc.; performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management; prescribes medications; instructs and educates patients and their families in proper healthcare, appropriate illness prevention, and home care; and documents in the patient chart progress notes, orders, etc. These aforementioned responsibilities are performed under the scope of practice to optimize clinical outcomes. The PA/NP must be credentialed as a mid-level provider by same Hospital(s) in which the collaborative physician has admitting privileges.
The Supervisor ensures work is accomplished in accordance with DMG policies and external government laws and state regulations. Seeks opportunities to improve operations and is an active member of both their assigned clinic and the department as a whole.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and Administrative
Responsible for hiring, orientating, scheduling, time management, managing assignments, and training of PA/NP an other clinical staff. Conducts performance appraisals, performance management, coaching and disciplining of staff. Ensures work expectations and DMG practice and policies are communicated and understood. Ensures up-to-date knowledge of regimens and compliance of practice approved regimens. Manages CME approval/denial and monitor /track educations programs.
Patient Examinations and Treatment
Performs and records complete physical examinations, as needed to evaluate a specific
health problem, including a history and physical. Analyzes and interprets data, formulates presenting problems and causes, and establishes care plans for resolutions. Evaluates and treats acute minor illnesses and traumas according to established practice protocols. May assist physician with procedures or based on scope of practice, under review conduct invasive or non-invasive procedures.
Orders Diagnostic and Therapeutic Modalities
In consultation with the collaborative physician, orders laboratory, x-ray, and/or other non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures. Initiates referrals to appropriate physician or other health care professional of problems that exceed the NP/PAs scope of practice.
Prescribes Medication
Prescribes medications as determined under scope of practice with collaborative physician oversight and mid-level practitioner controlled substance license.
Patient and Family Education
Instructs patients and families in proper healthcare, appropriate illness prevention measures, and home care in accordance with practice protocols and patient’s physical condition. Adjusts communication and instruction to the patient’s age, psycho-social, and cultural needs to obtain optimal health outcomes.
Hospital Daily Rounds
Depending on scope of practice and hospital requirements, may make daily rounds of hospitalized patients under supervision and communication with the collaborative physician. May be expected to contribute to care discussions and provide consultation to patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to improve clinical care. Provides updates back to physician.
Patient Documentation
Ensures appropriated documentation of patient-related information is in the medical chart, including discharge summaries and instructions.
**Performs all other duties/responsibilities as assigned as dictated under scope of practice .

Computer Proficiency: Able to learn and become proficient in EMR software as well as have basic knowledge of Microsoft applications, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, and demonstrate keyboarding speed and accuracy, minimum 30 wpm.
EDUCATION and / or CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
- Graduation from an approved school for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioner
- National certification as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in applicable specialty required.
- Current state licensure in good standing as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Current CPR certification must be maintained (BLS).
- Based on prescriptive authority, active Mid-level Practitioner Controlled Substance License may be required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3-5 years working as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with experience consummate to the specialty for which he/she is applying.
***The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $107,000-162,000, depending upon the applicant’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the base compensation, this position may also be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
