We're on the lookout for a qualified and passionate remote tutor to guide high school students through their preparation for the Advanced Placement (AP) United States History exam. Our ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of U.S. history, familiarity with the AP curriculum, and a proven track record in teaching or tutoring at the high school level. This role offers the flexibility of remote work, requiring candidates to have reliable internet access and comfort in conducting sessions online.
Responsibilities:
Craft customized lesson plans and tutoring strategies tailored to students' individual needs and learning objectives for the AP US History exam.
Delve into key themes, events, figures, and developments in U.S. history spanning from pre-Columbian times to the present, covering political, social, economic, and cultural facets.
Guide students through mastering historical thinking skills, including contextualization, comparison, causation, and synthesis, as outlined in the AP curriculum.
Foster engaging discussions and debates on historical issues, interpretations, and controversies, nurturing critical analysis and evidence-based argumentation.
Aid students in analyzing primary and secondary sources, from documents to maps, images, and multimedia materials.
Assist students in crafting compelling thesis statements, organizing coherent essays, and substantiating arguments with historical evidence effectively.
Provide constructive feedback and guidance on students' writing skills, encompassing grammar, style, structure, and historical accuracy.
Administer practice exams, multiple-choice questions, and document-based questions (DBQs) to gauge students' progress and readiness for the AP exam.
Maintain meticulous records of student performance, attendance, and engagement throughout tutoring sessions.
Regularly communicate with students and parents to review progress, set goals, and strategize for improvement.
Stay abreast of any updates or modifications to the AP US History exam, curriculum, and scoring criteria.
Offer additional resources, study materials, and recommendations to further enrich students' learning and preparation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in history, American studies, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Thorough knowledge of U.S. history, encompassing significant events, themes, periods, and historiography.
Demonstrated experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring high school students, particularly in AP US History or related subjects.
Proficiency with the AP US History curriculum, exam format, and scoring rubrics.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex historical concepts clearly and engagingly.
Possess patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and support students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Familiarity with online tutoring platforms, video conferencing tools, and other educational technology.
Strong organizational skills, enabling the planning and delivery of effective instruction tailored to individual student needs.
