A Brief Overview
This role is responsible for providing a variety of animal husbandry services as assigned.
This position will maintain animal research facility ancillary support spaces (bedding machine, RO water system, feed and bedding storage, cleaning and disinfection equipment and supplies), and provides logistical support for Department of Veterinary Resources [DVR] vivaria. Assist Technical Operations Supervisor with scheduling and execution of described maintenance and other projects as it pertains to maintaining cleanliness of the DVR vivaria.
This role will also be familiar with the day-to-day activities, employees, and concerns within the facilities.
What you will do
Maintain animal research facility ancillary support spaces (bedding machine, RO water system, feed and bedding storage, cleaning and disinfection equipment and supplies)
Provides logistical support for Department of Veterinary Resources [DVR] vivaria.
Logistical Support:
1) Receive equipment, supplies, and animal deliveries from loading dock, and deliver to appropriate areas.
2) Manage and rotate feed and bedding stock. Manage storage closets, cleaning and disinfection supplies.
3) Manage waste streams inside animal facilities and coordinate wit outside vendors for waste removal.
4) Complete intra-facility animal transports. Load, unload, and operate DVR transport vehicle. Will assist with vehicle maintenance and inspection.
5) Accompany CHOP support personnel (Facilities, Building Systems Operations [BSO]) and vendors or contractors to requested areas as needed.
Facility Support:
1) Maintain ancillary spaces of animal facilities.
2) Stock personal protective equipment.
3) Assist in sanitation and decontamination in all areas of the facility.
4) Understand, follow, and maintain compliance with all appropriate Standard Operating Procedures [SOP] safety procedures, regulatory, and quality assurance guidelines.
5) Complete all training as instructed.
Performs cage wash duties as assigned.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED Required
Experience Qualifications
At least one (1) year of experience in an animal research facility, laboratory animal or zoo animal environment Preferred
At least one (1) year of logistics experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
Driver's License - Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles - within 12 months - Required
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - - Preferred
