Full Time (40 hours per week includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed)
Salary Range- $90,000 to $95,000 (commensurate with experience)
Helen Woodward Animal Center is hiring an Animal Health Manager for our Adoptions Medical department! This opportunity will provide you the opportunity to directly influence, manage, and lead the direction of our adoptions medical staff! You will collaborate each day with the Adoption Services Director, the Adoptions Medical Director, and the Center Chief Veterinarian to ensure quality care, compliance and safety standards, and operational goals are consistently exceeded.
This role is an ideal position for a Registered Vet Technician (RVT) in California with experience overseeing a staff in a veterinary environment. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to build their leadership skills through training, coaching and mentoring staff members in addition to routinely assisting in medical procedures and treatment of intake and adoptable animals.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Animal Health Manager is responsible for providing daily management direction, objectives, and establishing goals for the Adoptions medical staff members. Oversight includes but is not limited to some of the following personnel activities: scheduling shifts to cover surgery, offsite and onsite intake, foster check-ups, maintaining a departmental budget, proofing and approving bi-weekly staff timesheets, ensuring timely documentation, database management, staff 1 x 1's and more.
In additional to the above responsibilities, The Animal Health Manger will also be expected to assist the medical operations through some of the following: surgery assistance, performing dental prophylaxis and extractions, cleaning, wrapping, and autoclaving surgical packs, conducting spore tests, x-rays, intake evaluations, anesthesia, organizing and maintaining a clean and safe working environment and other general medical procedures.

This individual should be willing and able to perform various duties or customer interactions at any time with an energetic and polished spirit.
Ensure quality animal care and records are maintained in a manner that ensures accuracy, confidentiality, accessibility, and safe keeping.
Other requirements include:
- Current California RVT license is required
- 2+ years of experience managing/overseeing staff in a veterinary environment
- Possess RVT-level knowledge regarding radiography, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, pharmacology, laboratory, and medicine as it pertains to small animal care
- Ability to control strong and unruly dogs, as well as handle fractious cats
- Maintain composure and focus under high-stress and intense environments
- Practice all medical protocols under strict safety standards and correct any lazy or disjointed practices among yourself or others promptly
- Proven time management skills and balancing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience in handling personnel concerns with urgency and professionalism
- Reliable team player committed to building positive relationships and adapting to several roles and tasks when needed
- Consistent record of attendance and punctuality
- Solutions/results oriented and passionate about meeting individual and team goals
- This position does require continuous physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. without assistance and 100 lbs. with assistance. Candidates may spend up to 30% of the time working outdoors. Occasional driving duties may be required in this role. Applicants must possess a valid Driver's License and provide a recent DMV Driving Record report and proof of insurance upon hire.
