ANIMAL CONTROL WARDEN
DUTIES:
The primary responsibility of an Animal Control Warden is the control of rabies.
Wardens are required to investigate all "Bite" cases.
Wardens are responsible for issuing citations and will be required to appear in court when necessary.
Wardens are required to assist and to perform euthanasia.
Wardens will be responsible for picking up stray animals and investigating humane care cases.
Wardens are required to take a rotation of weekend feeding and cleaning.
Wardens are required to rotate being on call.
Wardens are required to properly care for and maintain their equipment.
Wardens respond to citizen complaints.
Wardens assist the veterinarian when needed.
Wardens may have to pick up or deliver items to the Court House, or other duties asked of them.
REQUIREMENTS:
Wardens must be comfortable with handling cats and dogs of all sizes and dispositions in a humane manner that is generally accepted by Animal Control Agencies.
Wardens must have the ability to lift 100 pounds multiple times if necessary.
Wardens are required to become certified Illinois licensed to perform euthanasia.
Wardens are required to become NACA certified in the following disciplines, OCAT-Pepper Spray, Bite Stick, Chemical Immobilization, and Control Pole.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Visual ability to read written reports and correspondence.
Visual ability to read and operate standard office equipment.
Visual ability to operate vehicles during day and night hours.
Ability to physically restrain animals in the course of work.
Ability to pursue animals on foot in the course of work.
Strong attention to detail; self-starter. Ability to apply common sense and complete assigned task without continuous supervision.
Must be dependable; regular attendance is required.
Must be a St. Clair County resident and 18 years or older.
Must have a valid Illinois Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
Must be able to pass drug test and pre-employment verification.
EDUCATION: High School diploma, or GED equivalent, or three year experience with an Animal Control Agency.
PREFERRED: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related discipline, plus three years with an Animal Control Agency.
FULL TIME
SALARY: $37,000 - $38,500
