About the Job
The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Animal Control Officer to improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of the state-of-the-art, Shari D. Coleman Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
The Animal Control Officer earns a competitive salary of $21.19-$22.94/per hour, depending on qualifications.
Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. We make it our mission to protect, shelter, and care for animals, present educational programs to the community, provide support to residents and their pets during times of disaster, and offer and promote pet adoptions.
Our staff of ten professionally trained individuals are dedicated to serving the public and local animals, and we want you to bring your passion and love for all animals to our team!
What do you need to become a team member?
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 months experience in animal handling. We prefer Basic ACO and Euthanasia certifications, but training can be provided for our pear-fect fit.
What does a typical day as an ACO look like?
As an ACO you'll spend your shifts doing the following . . .
- Responding to calls and requests for service.
- Answering the phone and provides customer service to callers, visitors and citizens.
- Caring for animals at the shelter; assisting with kennel and office work; cleaning the shelter.
- Educating citizens on the proper care of animals.
- Performing public safety duties such as quarantines and bite reports.
- Driving and maintaining your work vehicle.
- Enforcing ordinances.
- Euthanizing animals humanely and skillfully so that there is the least amount of trauma possible for the animals.
- Lending a helping hand to your team as needed.
