Animal Care Specialist (part-time Tues-Thurs) - Schwartz Farms, Inc.

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing support to the breeding and/or farrowing teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks are dependent upon the department, but may include:

• Provide care for animals, ensuring they have access to food, water and a comfortable environment
• Perform daily production tasks involved in the breeding process, including artificial insemination, heat checks, seasonal vaccination, inventory management, feed monitoring, environment management, records management, etc.
• Perform daily production tasks involved in the farrowing process, including farrowing of sows, sow and piglet care, inventory management, feed monitoring, environment management, records management, etc.
• Assist with movement of animals
• Treat and vaccinate animals
• Maintain accurate documentation
• Assist in power washing
• Promote a safe work environment
• Maintain PQA certification status (provided on the job)
• Follow all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
• Exhibit strong teamwork, including working to achieve team goals, embracing new technologies, working on new projects, etc.
• Be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation
