About the Job
The Vice Chair for Education and Residency Program Director of the Department of Anesthesiology is a full-time member of Beverly Anesthesiology, Inc., reporting to the Co-Chair of Anesthesiology. This position will serve as the primary leader, strategist, and administrator for all educational activities within the department, in addition to overseeing the anesthesiology residency program. This role requires a seasoned clinician-educator with a proven commitment to fostering innovation and inclusivity. The Vice-Chair will spearhead efforts to enhance the department’s educational programs, cultivate leadership within the education team, and collaborate with residency and fellowship program directors to drive excellence in training and professional development. Additionally, the Vice Chair will oversee, develop, and continually improve the residency program to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and provide an exceptional learning environment for trainees.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Educational Leadership: Directing and overseeing the department’s residency, fellowship, and continuing medical education programs to ensure their success and alignment with institutional goals.
- Curriculum Advancement: Developing, refining, and updating educational curricula to reflect advancements in anesthesiology.
- Faculty Support and Mentorship: Promoting faculty development through mentorship, skill-building opportunities, and recognition of teaching excellence.
- Program Evaluation: Establishing systems to evaluate educational programs and trainee performance, using data to implement ongoing improvements.
- Accreditation Oversight: Ensuring compliance with accrediting bodies’ standards to maintain program accreditation and uphold departmental credibility.
- Innovative Practices: Introducing and expanding the use of modern educational tools, including simulation-based learning, digital platforms, and interdisciplinary training models.
- Educational Research: Supporting and encouraging research initiatives in medical education to enhance teaching methodologies and contribute to the academic community.
- Resource Management: Overseeing the allocation of resources for educational programs, including budgeting, securing funding, and optimizing facilities and materials.
- Collaborative Partnerships: Building relationships with other departments, institutions, and external organizations to enhance educational opportunities and share best practices.
- Trainee Support: Offering guidance and support to medical students, residents, and fellows, addressing their academic and professional development while prioritizing their well-being.
- Residency Program Oversight: Developing and improving the residency program, ensuring compliance with ACGME accreditation standards, including implementing changes to meet evolving requirements.
- Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures related to trainee hours, selection, evaluation, promotion, and supervision, as well as maintaining accurate programmatic records.
- Overseeing and implementing the program curriculum, including monitoring trainee progression and ensuring the learning environment fosters resident education.
- Faculty and Trainee Support: Monitoring faculty compliance with the timely submission of resident performance evaluations, and facilitating a culture of educational excellence in the residency program by promoting an environment that values academic growth and professional development.

Qualifications:
- Unrestricted California Physician license.
- Current board certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
- Demonstrates current competency in clinical responsibilities as an anesthesiologist.
- Demonstrate ongoing academic achievements with appropriate dissemination, including publications, the development of educational programs, or the conduct of research.
- Demonstrate expertise in the principles and expectations of medical training programs, with a proven record of educational leadership and excellence in teaching.
- Must have prior leadership experience within an academic medical department.
- Prior leadership experience as a residency program director or associate program director.
- Must have expertise in evaluating program faculty.
- Proven skills in fostering a culture of improvement, excellence, and efficiency.
- Medical Staff membership in accordance with requirements as specified in the CSMC and Medical Staff bylaws, rules and regulations.
- Proven excellence in teaching and in the organization of both clinical and non-clinical activities.
- Evidence of exceptional academic, clinical, professional, and administrative accomplishments.
