Work Location: Rockland County NY (near Nanuet NY and the NY/NJ state border) – Commute from the lower cost of living Orange County NY or from North NJ, NYC (higher COL), or CT.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be a key contributor in a hands-on roleanalyzing polymer stream composition, while also advisingthe team on proper analytical techniques and methodsand analyzing data. (ICP, GC, HPLC, TGA, FTIR etc)
Analyze complex organic mixturesincluding polymeric and biomass materials.
Utilize ASTM and EPA test procedures, especially in ICP atomic emission spectrometry, ion chromatography, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
Develop and apply analytical methods needed to support process development efforts in the local small scale pilot plant, the large pilot plant in TX, and collaborate with external labs hired to run routine tests.
Contribute to projects related to FTIR identification of plastics, rheology, and water analyses.
Write and modifyinternal analytical method procedures focused on data quality and datacontrol.
Mentorjunior scientists, engineers, and technicians on the use of instruments and lab safety.
Be the in-house expert regardingon-line process sampling methods.
Take steps to continuously improve lab safety
What You’ll Bring to the Job
PhD (preferred) or MS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or related
5+ years of industrial experience (outside of academia), preferably related to polymeric materials analysis
A post doc assignment at a national lab or independent company could be part of this experience.
Instrumentation troubleshooting and set up
Has analyzed complex organic mixture such as is found in petroleum-based fuels products.
Has analyses for metals found within organic materials (biomass or plastics)
Strong skills in mathematical analysis and data quality.
Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship now or in the future.
