Job Title: Ammonia Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Ammonia Technician to maintain and operate ammonia systems in commercial and industrial environments. This role involves performing inspections, testing, repairs, and system upgrades while ensuring compliance with all ammonia handling and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ammonia system components, regulations, and best practices for safe storage and operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, safety inspections, modifications, and upgrades on ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults on ammonia systems to ensure optimal operation and minimal downtime.
- Install, test, and commission new ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Supervise and coordinate contractor activities related to ammonia systems and other equipment.
- Oversee the boiler treatment program, including conducting regular boiler inspections.
- Prepare parts lists and purchase requisitions to ensure necessary inventory.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and concise documentation of all work performed, including inspection and maintenance records.
- Complete and manage forms, such as contractor timesheets, inventory logs, and work orders.
- Draft and update RFE descriptions for the ammonia and boiler systems.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance on plant equipment, particularly refrigeration, and complete associated paperwork.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble machinery and equipment commonly used in the department.
- Use calipers, feeler gauges, micrometers, and similar tools to perform chemical tests on boiler water, ensuring correct operation.
- Coordinate predictive testing on the ammonia system to identify potential issues.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings for machines and equipment, making and documenting modifications as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as required to support plant operations.
Qualifications and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of ammonia refrigeration experience, preferably in the food industry.
- Refrigeration certifications are a plus.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Strong knowledge of ammonia safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret ammonia piping diagrams and technical manuals.
- Experience with Health and Safety regulations and a commitment to following them.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members and contractors.
