Position Summary
As a GO AmeriCorps Fellow, you will play a key role in the school community by providing small groups of students individualized instruction, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities each day in a full-time AmeriCorps service position. You will tutor groups of students in grades 3 - 12 in-person Monday-Friday and on some weekends. An average service day lasts 9 hours.
You will gain professional and personal experience and acquire transferable skills during the GO Fellowship. You could potentially serve in any one of our partner schools from Virginia to Boston- all of which share our mission and values. The ideal candidate for the GO Fellowship is a college graduate who is team-oriented, passionate about service, and believes that all young people deserve a high-quality education.

AmeriCorps Living Allowance
The AmeriCorps Living Allowance and the number of pay cycles may vary depending on your assigned start date and location. As a baseline, the pre-tax AmeriCorps Living Allowance set by the federal AmeriCorps program is $20,400 for full-time Fellows who have successfully completed the onboarding process and commenced accruing service hours for all pay cycles (from early August to late June of the following year). The estimated pre-tax living allowance typically falls within the range of $500 to $800 in biweekly payments. Please note that the precise living allowance total and bi-weekly payment details will be clearly outlined in your offer letter and/or during your onboarding.
Key Responsibilities
Instruct for Mastery- Fellows deliver individualized small-group instruction to students in the context of a supportive relationship, resulting in a significant increase in math and ELA achievement. As a Fellow, you will:
- Provide daily small-group instruction (tutoring) to students in Math and/or English Language Arts for an average of four (45 minute) periods a day
- Support students in class, during after-school programming and/or Saturday Academy
- Work with students and teachers to set individualized and student driven academic goals
- Assess student academic progress and effectively use data to inform instruction
Develop a Community- Fellows contribute to the development of the school and surrounding communities. As a Fellow, you will:
- Support the development of a school by engaging with students during transitions, lunch and school-wide events
- Participate in service days such as 9/11 Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service
- Lead or support after-school clubs and sports programming
Mentor for Leadership- Fellows provide fundamental support to students' social and emotional growth. Fellows help empower students to evolve into leaders. As a Fellow, you will:
- Provide daily mentorship to students in formal and informal settings
- Work with students to set individualized student-directed social-emotional goals
- Develop relationships with families through weekly communications
Qualifications
You are qualified to apply if you meet the following requirements:
- Earned a High School Diploma/G.E.D. or higher prior to the start of service
- Citizenship or legal Permanent Residency status in the United States (AmeriCorps requirement)
- Served no more than three previous AmeriCorps service terms (AmeriCorps requirement)

GO AmeriCorps Fellow Teacher Residency
The Teacher Residency is a pathway to teaching created for GO Fellows. Each year, a small percentage of Fellows are selected to participate in an embedded Masters of Art in Teaching program. As a Teacher Resident, you can enroll in one of our partner graduate programs, working alongside a Mentor Teacher while gradually taking on teaching responsibility.
