We are looking for a passionate and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our dynamic team. This is a hybrid role, based in Denver, CO requiring only one day on site per week (Thursdays). All other days will be dependent upon meetings scheduled with patients which are often virtual, but occasionally in person. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ASL and a strong commitment to providing an essential communication link between our medical staff and patients who are deaf or hard of hearing. This is a permanent, full-time position that plays a crucial role in ensuring that all our patients receive the highest quality of care, irrespective of their hearing abilities.
Responsibilities:
As an ASL Interpreter, your primary role will be to facilitate effective communication between the medical team and patients who use sign language as their primary mode of communication. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing accurate and timely interpretation for deaf or hard of hearing patients during medical consultations, procedures, and meetings.
2. Translating spoken language into sign language and vice versa, ensuring that the intended message is accurately conveyed.
3. Assisting medical staff in understanding and implementing the best communication practices with deaf or hard of hearing patients.
4. Adhering to all confidentiality and privacy regulations, respecting the sensitive nature of medical information.
5. Participating in staff meetings and professional development activities to stay updated with the latest advancements in ASL interpretation in the medical field.
6. Providing emotional support to patients when necessary, while maintaining professional boundaries.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you should possess the following qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent, coupled with a minimum of 3 years of ASL interpreting experience, preferably in the medical field.
2. Certification (RID CI/CT, NIC, or BEI) is required. Non-profit, mental or healthcare background preferred.
3. Profound knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to interpret complex medical information accurately.
4. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals of all levels.
5. Strong ethical standards, with a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and professional conduct.
6. Ability to work under pressure and handle emotionally charged situations with sensitivity and tact.
7. Excellent critical thinking skills, with the ability to make quick decisions when necessary.
Please note: Prior mental health experience is not required for this role.
