Job Summary:
Under general supervision of the Fleet Maintenance and Supply Chain Supervisor, perform minor mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance of various kinds of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and perform related work as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspects, maintains and repairs varied equipment.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing and inspection of vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to use and maintain computerized fleet management program to track vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Maintain equipment in clean and orderly condition.
- Operate a variety of Snow Removal Equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to write reports clearly.
- Performs manual work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials used in the repair of light automotive.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials used in mechanical trades.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and relevant safety precautions;
- Knowledge of the theory, care and operation of gasoline and diesel engines;
- Ability to keep detailed maintenance records;
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs;
- Knowledge and ability to use computers and fleet management software;
- Knowledge of traffic regulations as they apply to the safe operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment;
- Ability to operate heavy-sized construction and maintenance equipment;
- Ability to perform heavy manual work;
- Ability to work in severe weather conditions;
- Ability to work without close supervision, make independent decisions, follow instructions and accept constructive criticism;
- Ability to work effectively with other employees and supervisory staff;
- Ability to communicate using two-way radio;
- Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers;
- Ability to reorganize daily work schedule depending on staffing and/or activity in area;
- Ability to be safety conscious at all times regarding physical activity (lifting and moving items);
- Mental ability to address potential adverse or negative situations that may arise from time to time;
- Must be dependable, reliable and have a previous history of good attendance and punctuality;
- Must be able to attend staff meetings and training meetings as required;
- Knowledge of and ability to operate ladders and lifts.
Acceptable Experience, Training and Other Qualifications:
- Prefer 5 yrs preventative maintenance experience in the automotive/equipment industry.
- Must be able to work nights, evenings, holidays, weekends during snow removal operations and/ or as assigned for airport emergencies and projects.

License or Other Requirements
- Successful post-employment physical and drug test;
- Successful background investigation to obtain unescorted airport identification/access privileges;
- Possession of a valid state of Iowa Class B CDL vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 6-months of hire;
- Random drug and alcohol testing required.

Essential Physical Abilities
- Must be able to perform heavy manual work in severe weather conditions;
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance;
- Ability to use hand/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulations, pushing and pulling and operating controls and equipment.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to read technical documentation and manipulate small objects in confined areas;
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to adjust to confined areas and work around construction sites and on the airfield.
This position is active for the entire shift (standing, walking, stooping, twisting, lifting, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, crouching and crawling).
