CITY OF REDMOND POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Airport Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Airport
This recruitment is for an Airport Custodian who will be filling a night-shift position.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs custodial duties to maintain the Airport Terminal, Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) building, and general facility maintenance of terminal grounds and vehicle parking lots.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Cleans floors and carpeting; washes interior and exterior windows and glass doors; sanitizes all restrooms; picks up and removes trash; cleans furniture; dusts all surfaces high and low; washes walls and pressure wash sidewalks weekly.
Performs outdoor cleanup tasks on Airport property, including all vehicle parking areas; and right-of-way on Airport roads, terminals, and SRE building grounds
Performs minor building maintenance as required
Performs winter maintenance duties at the terminal
Remove snow from sidewalks; sand walks when icy conditions occur; monitor icy and unsafe road conditions at the terminal and report conditions to the supervisor; and sweep sand from walks after storms
Promotes an effective, responsive, and value-based organizational culture.
Champions the values of the City and Airport through example and accountability
Work is reviewed through results achieved, meetings, spot checks of work in progress, and an evaluation of results achieved
Performs baggage handling system reset when bag jams occur in the baggage screening area.
Security knowledge, responsibilities, and active participation are mandatory requirements due to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations
Security responsibilities and training will be provided
Employee accepts and acknowledges responsibilities upon issuance of a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
May be required to drive City vehicles from one area of the Airport to another, or other City buildings, for custodial duties, snow removal, training, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Mandatory Requirements:
High school diploma, or GED equivalent, plus twelve (12) months of verifiable work experience in both commercial custodian work and commercial facilities maintenance.
Must know supplies, materials, and equipment used in commercial custodial work and commercial facilities maintenance.
Must be able to successfully pass and maintain continuous successful FBI and TSA background checks.
Understand and execute complex oral and written instructions; express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing; maintain confidentiality; deal effectively with frequent interruptions and several situations at one time; establish priorities and organize own workload; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public and private offices, and the general public; and effectively use business telephone etiquette.
Must be able to engage with and follow all security requirements.
Special Requirements/Licenses:
This position may require the use of City vehicles
Possession of, or required to obtain within thirty (30) days from the date of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license.
Must have a safe driving record.
Desirable Requirements:
For desirable requirements to be considered, one must have met the minimum requirements noted above:
- Two (2) years or more verifiable custodian and facilities maintenance work experience in an airport environment
- Three (3) years or more verifiable commercial custodian and facilities maintenance work experience
- Eighteen (18) months or more verifiable work experience in a City/County government setting
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed as part of a work crew often without direct supervision after the assignment of duties
The employee generally works under the indirect supervision of the Operations and Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Airport Facilities Supervisor person, who gives instructions and specific objectives, and reviews work on specific projects for accuracy and adherence to standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is not a supervisory position
Employees may assist in direction, guidance, or training in operational procedures to other employees.

The physical demands represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

Hand power tools, heavy custodian floor maintenance equipment, paint equipment, ATV (4-wheeler) for sanding walks, small snowplow, and a power broom for snow removal on sidewalks and areas around SRE and Terminal buildings, mobile radio, and aviation radio
Also, Kubota tractors, backpack blowers, and pressure washers will be used
This position requires the use of City vehicles.
