Overview
Must be a current member and remain a member of Local 399’s Engineer Apprentice Program. FUNCTION Operate under the direction of the Chief Engineer or his/her designee, the Apprentice shall act as an Engineer, except working a shift without at least one Journeyman Operating Engineer present to oversee his/her activities. Such duties include, but are not limited to, operating all heating and air conditioning equipment, pumps, air compressors, generators, fan systems, and other mechanical related equipment. Also, other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

FUNCTION

Such duties include, but are not limited to, operating all heating and air conditioning equipment, pumps, air compressors, generators, fan systems, and other mechanical related equipment. Also, other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.
The Apprentice Engineer must be a current member and remain a member of Local 399’s Engineer Apprentice Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds in a professional, polite, and helpful manner when dealing with customers.
- Operates, maintains, and performs maintenance of the central utility services equipment and systems, including:
- Boilers
- Water Treatment/
- Air Compressors
- Chilled
- Cooling Towers
- Air Dryers
- Pumps, piping, valves
- Pneumatics
- Hot Water Converters
- Microprocessors
- Controls and Positioners
- Waste Treatment
- High Purity Water Treatment
- Heat exchanges
- Fuel oil systems
- Natural Gas Systems
- Air Conditioning Units
- Thoroughly and accurately completes reactive and preventive maintenance paperwork.
- Assists in emergencies as needed.
- Properly identifies problems and reports to supervisor when appropriate.
- Provides advance notice of equipment shutdown or start-up to affected areas.
- Works according to the schedule as prepared by the supervisor.
- Returns all work areas to a clean, neat, orderly, and safe condition.
- Learns, understands, and complies with fire, safety, and other emergency practices. Informs supervisor of any condition observed to be unsafe.
- Learns, understands, and complies with all ABM and customer policies.
- Participates in training directed at job-related skills.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school or technical school graduate.
- Meet requirements as prescribed in Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship Program.
- Previous experience operating and maintaining central utility services equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of maintaining central utility services equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of the equipment, tools and materials used.
- Ability to keep simple records of activities performed.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
