SUMMARY:
Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties for Harrisburg International Airport, a commercial service small hub airport that serves approximately 1.4 million passengers annually as well as 3 general aviation airports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Understanding of how a series electrical circuit works
- Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Assist in pulling wiring through conduit.
- Splices wires by stripping installation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
- Connects wiring to lighted fixtures and power equipment.
- Connects power cables to electrical equipment, lighting equipment motors, and installs grounding leads.
- Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, amp meter, and megger.
- Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
- Re-lamping and repair of runway lighting fixtures and repair or replacement of wiring circuits.
- Medium voltage trouble shooting and splicing on a limited basis.
- Controls touch screen operation of airfield lights.
- Control airfield lighting computer system.
- Maintain airfield circuit regulators (Constant current)
- Maintain Brite remotes for in pavement lighting.
- Maintain Cat III landing system.
- Responsible for changing and repairing circuit boards (airfield signs, regulators).
- Maintain airfield circuit selector switches.
- Rotating beacon maintenance.
- Perform snow removal operations which include being knowledgeable and proficient in snow techniques and operating all types of snow removal equipment.
- Performs any other duty or assignment delegated by proper authority.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
1 year of electrical experience in a commercial or industrial setting. Must be able to pass FAA training as required. Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:
A valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record or ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date. Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a PA Class B CDL w/airbrakes. Must have completed advance industry training or specialized training in high, medium and low voltage electrical systems. Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation in order to be issued Airport Identification Badge.

Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Must effectively set priorities. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to apply common sense principals and understanding required to comply with written and oral instructions, as well as basic diagrams. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, and must be able to distinguish full visual color spectrum. May be required to wear a respirator or other protective clothing while performance of assigned tasks. Must be able to work in confined spaces, and heights. Must be able to work around all type of insects. Requires working with hazardous materials.
Work Environment:
While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme outside weather conditions, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, working in precarious places, with risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
Language and Communication Skills:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Ability to establish effective working relationships with subordinates. Employee is expected to regularly communicate with managers, co-workers, FAA tower operators, other departments, contractors, and consultants. Uses ground and maintenance radio communication equipment, requiring correct terminology and ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic math skills required.
Computer Skills:
Basic skills preferred.
