GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Aircraft Mechanics III must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
DUTIES
- Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled/ unscheduled maintenance
- Demonstrate the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported
- Capable of performing, supervising, and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs
- Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty,
- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components
- Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions
- Applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation
- Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals
- Inspect/clear aircraft discrepancy symbols to include Red X discrepancies and inspect/sign all equipment condition tags for all tasks that the team is assigned
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records
- Responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts
- Will require the use of HLVP spray gun and various other corrosion control tooling
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years (hands on) experience on the C-130H/J variant aircraft
- Must have C-130 "hands-on" experience within the last 3 years and capable of performing all tasks IAW written instructions
- May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration
- Requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems
- Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule
- A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required
- Must currently posses or have the ability to obtain a US passport
- Must be a U.S. Citizen

- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
- May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
- Expected to work in high heat or extreme cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
- May operate in austere CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to wear a full faced or forced air respirator
- Availability/ability to work different shifts if needed
