About the Job
Position Purpose:
The Air Export Manager will assist management in achieving the stated branch goals that are in line with the company policy and established procedures including, but not limited to, increasing company profit. The Air Export Manager will also provide ideas or ways to improve operational policies and procedures. Supervises and co-ordinates the activities of the Air Export department in arranging the timely dispatch of goods by Air in a timely manner to customers, as per customer orders and prescribed quality standards while using discretion and independent judgment. The Air Export Manager will also be responsible for the P/L of the Air Export department.
Responsible for main tasks
Increasing Branch Profits
- Utilize discretion and independent judgment to engage vendors to increase margin on each shipment.
- Utilize discretion and independent judgment to ship goods using the most efficient, cost-effective route to increase margin on each shipment.
- Discretion to engage vendors.
- Management of vendors.
- Negotiate rates with shipping vendors.
- Employee profit and loss on each shipment will be analyzed.
- Overall management of desk to maximize profit.
Coordinating Operations for Airfreight Exports
- Ensuring customer support documentation is available and correct.
- Booking freight with Airlines and consolidators and obtaining freight rates.
- Arranging picks up and on behalf of the client/agent as required.
- Registration of shipments.
- Accurate completion of Airway Bills.
- Operating customs exit systems, ensuring relevant input data is recorded for obtaining E.C.N clearance.
- Reporting to customs where relevant.
- Ensure timely delivery to carrier’s consolidators, packing depots, costing invoicing and collection of correct charges.
- Ensures compliance with all regulations prescribed by USA customs/IATA/TSA.
Client and Supplier Management
- Quotes and records rates to clients and prospective clients. Negotiates buying rates with airlines/shipping lines and subcontractors.
- Deployment of information about all contracts with customers and suppliers to all parties.
- Manages allocated customers using established tools (e.g. Activity reports) to achieve and exceed targets.
- Traces orders and ensures that information affecting arrival and dispatch is communicated to customers (internally & externally) or their agents.
- Reacts in a timely manner when reviewing discrepancies and keeps record of discrepancies via the Innovations and Incidents Management (IIM) to ensure compliance.
- Keeps focus of competitor activities and industry trends - attends industry related functions when required.
Financial and Accounting Functions
- P/L responsibility for Air Export department.
- Develop a business plan in conjunction with his/her key staff, to achieve the stated company outcomes for the Air Export department.
- Invoicing and collection of freight, agency and disbursements from clients.
- Resolves accounting issues related to forwarding cost/payment, overseas invoicing and free domicile, etc.
- Reconciles CASS statements, approves credit notes and monitors cartage/waiting time costs.
- Processes Air freight debtors/creditors in an expeditious manner.
- Supplies support documents & information of accounts on overdue payments.
People Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage Air Export team.
- Works with Regional VP/Branch Manager to retain adequate staffing levels. Participates in the recruitment and interviewing process for Air Export positions.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for Air Export team; Establish targets and objectives.
- Monitor staff performance - work with HR and Regional VP/Branch Manager on employee relations and training issues.
- Works with Regional VP/Branch Manager to make recommendations on job status and succession planning of Air Export team.
Required skills:
- High school graduate or GED. Some college preferred
- Knowledge of related computer applications, EDI, Cargowise
- Business unit & Cost center supervision
- Essentially five years of previous Air Export experience
- At least one year of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated customer services skills
- Superb administration skills

Salary Range $75,000-$90,000
