Job Description:
The AI Specialist – Learning Solutions will play a key role in advancing academic excellence at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences by integrating artificial intelligence into upper-division courses. Focused initially on math and science units, this role leverages cutting-edge AI tools—like natural language processing and prompt engineering—to tackle complex academic challenges, improve the learning experience, and support faculty in achieving pedagogical goals.

Salary Range: $78,000 - $102,000; Depends on experience
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with faculty and academic leaders to identify and implement AI solutions that address unique challenges in upper-division coursework.
- Design, test, and optimize AI tools for tasks such as evaluating mathematical proofs, solving complex equations, and automating personalized student feedback.
- Leverage data insights to enhance AI-driven resources, ensuring alignment with academic goals and the needs of diverse learners.
- Create and deploy cutting-edge teaching aids, including virtual tutors tailored to STEM disciplines.
- Lead cross-functional collaborations to integrate AI technologies seamlessly into academic workflows and curriculum design.
- Empower faculty and teaching assistants through training on AI tools and prompt engineering, fostering widespread adoption and effective use.
- Champion ethical AI practices by ensuring all tools comply with data privacy, accessibility, and institutional standards.
- Document best practices and share successes to facilitate the adoption of AI-driven solutions across academic programs within The College.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expertise in AI applications, including natural language processing, prompt engineering, and machine learning techniques, with a focus on educational contexts.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty and academic leaders to design AI-driven solutions tailored to specific pedagogical needs.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling the development of creative and effective AI tools that meet academic goals.
- Proficiency in educational and computational tools, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, bridging technical solutions with the pedagogical goals of diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ethical AI practices, data privacy regulations, and accessibility standards in education.
- Creativity and resourcefulness in applying AI to complex academic challenges.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Education Technology, or a related field focusing on AI applications in education.
- Experience developing and refining AI solutions in academic settings, including tools for evaluation, grading, or personalized feedback.
- Familiarity with the structure of higher education platforms such as Canvas and LTI integration (Learning Tools Interoperability).
- Experience designing or supporting learning environments that promote engagement and success for a broad range of students and educational needs.
- Demonstrated passion for staying current with AI advancements to drive progress and improve academic outcomes.
Working Environment:
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting, with extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Daily use of a desktop or laptop computer is required.
- Ability to clearly communicate and perform essential duties in both in-person and virtual settings.
- Regular evaluation of task outcomes and opportunities for process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
