The AI Engineer is an important role within the Innovation team, elevating our commitment to exceptional client service and internal operational excellence. The ideal candidate will work closely with the firm’s AI Working Group and other stakeholders across the firm, playing a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing AI solutions. This position focuses on both Generative AI and non-Generative AI technologies, using Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and other advanced tools. This position reports to the Director of Innovation and Knowledge Management Firm Solutions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identify and Develop AI Use Cases: Work closely with stakeholders to identify and develop AI use cases relevant to the firm’s practice.
Evaluate AI Applications: Evaluate potential AI applications for feasibility and impact on both legal and business services processes and outcomes and make appropriate recommendations.
Assist with Infrastructure and Data Strategy Alignment: Work with the firm’s IT and Data Services teams to help ensure the appropriate technical infrastructure is in place to support a wide variety of AI projects and initiatives (both generative and non-generative) and that the firm’s data strategy aligns with its AI goals.
Design, Develop, and Implement AI Solutions: Following an agile approach and leveraging Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and a variety of other AI technologies, design, develop, and implement custom AI systems and applications to enhance service delivery, and assist with the implementation of “off-the-shelf” AI solutions.
Adhere to Responsible and Ethical AI Principles: Ensure all AI applications comply with ethical standards and regulations.
Serve as an AI Subject Matter Expert and Advocate: Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies, particularly those applicable to the legal industry, and provide technical insights and recommendations to improve AI adoption and integration within the firm.
Project Management: Oversee AI project activities, employing effective project management techniques and tools. Ensure timely and successful execution of initiatives.
Metrics and Reporting: Develop and track key metrics. Provide regular reports on the effectiveness of AI initiatives and propose data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in AI technology development and implementation with demonstrated experience in Generative AI.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficiency in AI frameworks and programming languages, including Python, R, Java, and C++.
- Understanding of key mathematical concepts such as statistics, probability, and linear algebra.
- Experience with developing AI solutions, preferably in a professional services environment.
- Experience with common AI/ML algorithms and models, neural networks, deep learning, natural language processing, and prompt engineering.
- Knowledge of REST API development.
- Knowledge of Microsoft technologies such as Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Machine Learning, Azure AI Studio/prompt flow, Power Automate, and AI/Cognitive Search, along with their application in real-world scenarios.
The expected salary range for this position in New York City and Westchester County is $125,000 - $150,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
