SUMMARY: Under direction of the Chief Engineer, performs activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery for Alameda Hospital-specific facilities and buildings. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Under general supervision, performs tasks in support of physical plant equipment/systems and operations, including life support and life safety equipment.
2. May be required to work in emergency situations during off hours and on weekend shifts.
3. Performs inspections and adjustments of equipment.
4. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, operation and maintenance manuals and other documents to determine proper operation.
5. Troubleshoots and problem solve under normal and abnormal situations.
6. Operates, adjusts and analyzes various pieces of physical plant equipment through use of computers and microprocessor based devices.
7. Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
8. Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.
9. Performs urgent corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.
10. Performs preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital and complies with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.
11. Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
12. Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
13. Reads blueprints, interprets instructions and prepares specifications.
14. Works day, evening, or night shift as assigned.
15. Ability to work on his/her own and to inspect facilities and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education: High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Education: Successful completion of Local 39 four year apprenticeship program.
Required Licensure/Certification: CFC Certificate-to be obtained within six months of hire or promotion.
Minimum Experience: Minimum of four years of related experience and/or training.
Preferred Experience: Journeyman-level field service experience in industrial electrical, refrigeration and healthcare. Valid California Driver's License.
