Three positions available! - located in Crossville, AL
Auburn University's Agriculture Experiment Station is excited to recruit candidates for an Agriculture Technician! The individuals selected for these positions will perform basic level technical research tasks in agronomy, horticulture, livestock care, and farm facility repair maintenance at the Sand Mountain Research and Extension Center (SMREC) located in Crossville, AL.
The goal of SMREC research is to develop farm management practices that will help the region's livestock, poultry, row crop and commercial vegetable producers-particularly small-scale farmers-to operate more efficiently, sustainably and profitably.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, and harvesting crops used for research; operates and performs minor maintenance and repair on various research and farm equipment such as trucks, tractors, pickers, combines, lawn care equipment, and research equipment.
- Cares for animals which includes feeding, watering, administering medication, and transporting in compliance with regulations and research protocols and others defined criteria.
- Assists in collecting, recording and/or reporting various observations, measurements, or other information for research projects; and constructs, repairs, and maintains facilities which may include (but is not limited to) houses, barns, storage buildings, fences, corrals, and processing facilities.
- Periodically clean pens, stables, barns, and pits.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience.
Level III: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
Level IV: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated technical excellence; and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Must be willing to work after hours and on weekends.

Minimum License and Certifications
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection is required. Must be able to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license within 6 months of the hire date.
