If so, then our part-time After School Program Assistant position at the International Institute of St. Louis is the perfect opportunity for you! As an After School Program Assistant, you will directly interact with youth clients and support their successful integration into the St. Louis community.
Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the After School Tutoring Program that provides homework help, academic skill development, and social skill development to immigrant and refugee high school students. You will also support the Teen Summer Learning Program, a 3-week program in July centered on a specific theme. Both programs includes regular, direct client interactions, field trips, and administrative tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide culturally competent, equitable client services with minimal supervision
- Assist the Program Coordinator in preparation and implementation of program activities and materials
- Assist the Program Coordinator with recruitment and enrollment of youth participants and volunteers
- Assist individual youth participants or groups with homework help and skill development activities
- Assist with managing vollunteer tutors
- Record volunteer hours and notify Program Coordinator of absences
- Help to address emotional or behavioral situations that arise during program time
- Communicate with Program Coordinator or Program Supervisor about any issues or problems that arise during program time
- Lead Program and activities in absence of Program Coordinator
- Assist with end of session activities and evaluations
- Assit the Program Coordinator with planning field trips & chaperoning as needed
- Entering client information into IISTL client database as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Cultural sensitivity and flexibility
- Strong desire to work with immigrant & refugee youth aged 14-21
- Ability to work well with others as well as independently
- Ability to speak and write English well
- Dependability and punctuality
- Second language (Spanish, Dari/Pashtu or Swahili) preferred
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to prioritize, effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, and take ownership of work.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be meticulous, but able to maintain a balanced perspective in rapidly changing business circumstances.
- Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365.
Education and Experience
- HS Diploma. Prefer some college credits
- Experience working with adolescents and/or students with limited English proficiency in an educational setting
