Job Title: Afghan Youth Mentor Volunteer - Farsi/Dari Translator
Location: Remote
State Date: Winter- January 2025
Duration: 4 Months, 2-10+ hours per week; Standard business hours.

ABOUT THE JOB: We are seeking a Dari language speaker to translate a 20-page workbook from English into Dari. This workbook will be used in a youth mentorship program designed for Afghan women and girls aged 15-24, focusing on topics such as higher education, job readiness, and personal finance. The translator will ensure that the content is culturally relevant, accessible, and engaging, helping empower young women to succeed in their personal and professional lives. Strong proficiency in both English and Dari, with an understanding of the target audience, is essential for this role.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Volunteer will gain valuable experience in cross-cultural communication and language translation, specifically in adapting content for diverse audiences.
Volunteer will have the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful mentorship program that empowers young women, enhancing their understanding of youth development and social impact.
Volunteer will develop skills in project management and content localization, while working closely with a team to create educational materials tailored to the unique needs of Afghan women and girls.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Translate Workbook Content: Accurately translate a (roughly) 20-page workbook from English to Dari, ensuring clarity, cultural sensitivity, and accessibility for Afghan women and girls aged 15-24. The content will cover key topics such as higher education, job readiness, and personal finance.
Ensure Consistency and Quality: Maintain consistency in terminology and tone throughout the translation. Review and revise the translated content for accuracy, readability, and appropriateness for the target audience.
Collaborate with Program Team: Work closely with the program development team to understand the specific needs of the youth mentorship program and ensure that the translated workbook aligns with the program’s objectives.
Adhere to Deadlines: Complete the translation within a strict deadline of 1 to 2 weeks, ensuring the final product is ready for distribution as part of the mentorship program.
REQUIREMENTS:
Fluency in Dari and English (Excellent): Must have native or near-native proficiency in Dari and a strong command of English.
Translation Experience (Strong): Prior experience in translating educational or professional materials is required.
Attention to Detail (Excellent): Must ensure accuracy and clarity in translating the content.
Cultural Sensitivity (Strong): Understanding the cultural context of Afghan women and girls is essential.
Time Management (Strong): Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks effectively.
Communication Skills (Solid): Strong communication skills to collaborate with the program team.
Computer Skills (Basic to Solid): Proficiency in word processing software is required.
Commitment to the Program (Strong): Genuine interest in empowering young Afghan women and girls.
