Job Summary:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) –Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider who has acquired a broad range of knowledge and skills through the successful completion of an acute care nurse practitioner program or a physician assistant program. The ACNP/PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. The ACNP/PA works in the hospital setting under the direct supervison of an attending CV Surgeons and reports directly to the Medical Director of CV Services/Heart & Vascular Service Line Administrator.
Job Summary:
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the Emergency Department, inpatient, and operative settings.
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
- Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
- Assist in the operating room including obtaining ‘First Assist’ certification with harvesting of conduit as well as closing.
- Practice cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources
- Discuss patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the department
- Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate and attends all required meetings,in-services, and professional training
- Comply with 75% attendance expectation for quarterly CV Quality Review.
- Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills as a member of the healthcare team in order to collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community health workers
- Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth
- Adhers to established policies, procedures, and precautions
- Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care
- The ACNP/PA must utilize knowledge of growth and development in the care of adult and geriatric patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
- Critical Care Procedures including, but not limited to, chest tube and line placement
- Critical Care and floor rounding
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant educational program. Basic Life Support (BLS) within one-month of hire and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Obtain CME in accordance with the requirements set forth by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
Work Experience:
Previous work experience as an ACNP/Physician Assistant in Cardiology/CV Surgery preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Current license to practice in the State of Mississippi as a Physician’s Assistant. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians’ Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current license to practice in the State of Mississippi as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
