Job Description:
This position is accountable for the provision of patient care and other activities as permitted by licensure and defined within Credentialing and Privileging documentation (hospital), Credentialing and Scope of Practice (Medical Group), Consultation and Referral Plan (DOPL) or other similar documentation as appropriate. As part of that patient care, this position is accountable to: deliver optimal patient care through effective clinical practice; education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others; consultation with other healthcare providers; and maintain current knowledge regarding options for optimal patient care and outcomes.
Advanced Practice Provider-Nocturnist Hospitalist

Position Type: 1.0 FTE
Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
Job Description Summary
We are a rapidly expanding team of Hospitalist physicians and advanced practice providers committed to clinical quality improvement and ensuring patients receive the highest quality care at an affordable cost.
The Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a critical role in the management of hospitalized patients, with a primary focus on those on general medicine floors. The APP will work collaboratively with attending physicians, tele-critical care, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to adult patients, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered outcomes. The general schedule for this APP will cross cover nights from 9pm to 7am.

Nocturnist Key Responsibilities:
+ Patient Care: Manage the care of hospitalized patients, including admissions, discharges, and inpatient consultations during the night. Respond to acute medical issues and emergencies (e.g., rapid responses, codes, sepsis, or critical changes in patient status).
+ Cross-Coverage: Address overnight issues for patients already admitted, such as nursing calls, lab results, pain management, changes in clinical status, or patient/family concerns. Handle urgent or emergent situations for multiple patients, prioritizing effectively. Lead and participate in rapid response teams (RRTs) and code blue situations. Coordinate care for critically ill patients during the night, including transfers to higher levels of care if necessary.
+ Documentation and Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Comply with hospital protocols, guidelines, and quality metrics.
+ Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with nursing staff, specialists, and ancillary teams to address patient needs. Provide detailed handoff to the daytime hospitalist team, ensuring clear and concise communication of overnight events.
+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, including history and physical, progress notes and discharge summaries in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Ensure that records are detailed, complete and comply with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice standards.
+ Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the hospitalist program and the hospital. Participate in hospital committees, task forces, and meetings as required.
+ Using quality and process improvement techniques and practices to make the hospital a safer place and improve patient outcomes.
Stay abreast of current trends in healthcare practice and participate in continuing medical education to ensure optimal clinical knowledge and effective patient care skill. Knowledge of core competencies of clinical conditions..
Physical Requirements:
Qualifications
+ Education:
+ Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN, DNP) or Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
+ Licensure/Certification:
+ Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Utah
+ Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
+ DEA Certificate II through V - DOJ Drug Enforcement Division
+ ACLS and BLS certification required; additional critical care certifications (e.g., FCCS, CCRN) preferred.
+ Experience:
+ Prior Hospital based experience as an APP is highly preferred
+ Skills and Abilities:
+ Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
+ Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.
+ Proficiency in handling acute and emergent medical situations.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to work in a hospital environment, which may involve exposure to infectious diseases and high-stress situations.
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
