Licenses and Certifications:
- DEA License & Controlled Substance Certification
- BLS Certification / Current CPR certification.
- Nurse Practitioner license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation required before hire.
Education & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing / Graduate from an accredited APN program.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Oncology Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, palliative care, and end-of-life care.

General Overview:
The APN will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to enhance the quality of care and improve patient outcomes for cancer patients, their families, and the healthcare staff. This position involves engaging patients for 30-40 hours per week.
HOPE & HEALING CANCER SERVICES
Hematology-Oncology Services
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a physician to expand healthcare services by diagnosing and treating hematology and oncology conditions.
- Perform comprehensive health histories and physical exams, document findings, and develop treatment plans in partnership with the physician.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies and assess patient responses to treatment.
- Provide both inpatient and outpatient follow-up care.
- Initiate consultations with specialists when necessary.
- Address oncology-related concerns and intervene as required.
- Identify and manage treatment-related toxicities.
- Offer expert symptom management and collaborate with physicians in developing care plans for patients with complex conditions.
- Monitor and adjust medications and treatments per established protocols.
- Diagnose and treat common oncology-related illnesses.
- Respond to emergency calls related to symptom management and family concerns.
- Ensure continuity of care across various settings such as hospitals, home health, hospice, and rehabilitation.
- Oversee chemotherapy administration in the office, collaborate with infusion nurses to schedule treatments, and evaluate protocols with physicians.
- Provide psychosocial counseling to patients and families, referring to social work or community agencies when needed.
- Perform procedures including bone marrow biopsies, removal of PICC lines, and intrathecal chemotherapy administration.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of integrative therapies in supporting medical treatment.
- Counsel patients on genetic testing and provide pre-test genetic counseling.
- Coordinate discharge plans, follow-up care, and outpatient prescriptions.
- Assist with hospital rounds and manage hospitalized patients.
- Participate in daily team huddles and conferences to enhance communication and care coordination.
- Provide survivorship care for patients who have completed chemotherapy.

Education Responsibilities:
- Educate patients and families about disease, treatment options, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Provide education on disease processes and chemotherapy to patients and caregivers.
Research Responsibilities:
- Administration of drug for Research patients.
- Identify eligible patients for clinical trials and communicating the same with the Research team.
