Summary:
The Advanced Program Manager (APM) reports to the Director of the Center for Professional Practice Innovation and Nursing Research (CPPI).
The Advanced Practice Manager (APM) role which is part of the CPPI department anchors nursing practice to evidenced-based information and nurse-sensitive outcomes. Advanced Practice Managers aim to plan design and implement patient-specific and population-based programs of care. The APM contributes to clinical excellence in patient care through consulting research teaching and leadership in the organization. The role of the Advanced Practice Manager is guided by American Nurses Association Nursing Administration and Professional Development Scope and Standards.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the APM role include:
Engagement in initiatives that are driven by and related to nurse and/or patient outcomes: This may include collection and synthesis of key data needed to drive evidence-based initiatives and develop effective action plans to correct nursing practice gaps. Involvement with quality issues and interdisciplinary practice changes. (e.g. NSIs auditing safety nets event review protocol policy and guideline development root cause analysis action plan development).
Participation in hospital quality goals that drive practice: The APM will focus on developing and facilitating strategic interventions that drive quality nursing practice.
Participation and facilitation in unit based (or global) initiatives: Roll outs new equipment annual education professional governance. Engagement in professional development plans as they relate to responses in nursing engagement and satisfaction surveys.
Facilitation of new hire support/preceptor support: In coordination with clinical management the APM conducts periodic follow up with preceptors and newly hired nurses to provide support and guidance and assessment of readiness to transition to independent practice.
The APM partners with the clinical management team in recruitment and retention efforts as well as professional role development. The APM will promote and provide support for nursing attainment of national specialty certification.
Provides expert clinical consultation and resource to nurses and nurse leaders regarding clinical practice issues.
Contributes to development of the CPPI departmental strategic plan in alignment with organizational priorities.
Collaboration with interprofessional leadership at all levels of the system to facilitate achievement of quality nursing practice and patient experience.
Leading mentoring and/or supporting research and evidence-based/quality improvement projects at all organizational levels disseminating findings. APMs will participate in departmental publications and presentations.
Maintenance of current knowledge and participation in professional development related to this role. This may include Six Sigma certification national certification as well as other professional development opportunities.
Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:
Master's degree in Nursing with an academic focus on clinical practice nursing education or nursing administration required. Consideration will be given to internal candidates who are enrolled in a Master's program with relevant clinical experience.
Current license to practice in the state of Rhode Island required APRN license or advanced certification preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years of relevant pediatric clinical experience.
Evidence of exceptional interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills as well as creative problem solving in an environment with culturally diverse needs and abilities of staff.
Able to facilitate group processes and to work cohesively with an interdisciplinary team. Membership in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations.
Ability to conceptualize develop and effect quality nursing services with a commitment to continuous quality improvement is essential.
Develops and maintains expertise in the field to address questions and provide strategic direction for evidence-based and quality innovation. The ability to see the potential in and use clinical information and decision support tools. The ability to understand and use statistical methods and metrics to set goals and measure clinical performance and quality outcomes.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit stand and walk intermittently throughout the day. Exposure to patient care environments. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions. Supervisory responsibility.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within department policies and practices. Takes initiative and meets objectives with minimal supervision. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor when clarification of departmental policies and procedures are required.
