JOB DESCRIPTION
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of remote work and in-office reporting), with the coordination and approval of the appropriate supervisor. The position is located in Columbus, OH.
Position Title: Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Program Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Basic Functions: The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Program Manager has knowledge of AMI head-end systems, meter data management systems (MDMS), electric/water/gas metering data, relational databases, Edit, Transform, and Load interfaces, reporting and analytics. This also includes knowledge of distribution management systems (DMS), customer information systems (CIS), demand response systems, utility billing and outage management systems. The AMI Program Manager will spend significant time with Members establishing project objectives and then managing a team of engineers, operators, consultants, and third party vendors to achieve those objectives. The AMI Program Manager will also function as a lead resource in a pre-subscription role by providing any necessary requirements gathering and pricing information to support a successful subscription.
Essential Functions:
1. Implements policies and objectives of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) initiatives.
2. Identifies and documents key processes related to the successful support and operation of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program, with an emphasis on data interfaces between AMI head-end systems, Meter Data Management Systems, and customer billing/CIS systems.
3. Leads Member facing organization by giving general and/or technical presentations and answering questions from potential AMI Program participants regarding the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Program and to onboard new Members into the AMI program.
4. Leads Member facing organization by providing high level estimates and final statements of work related to municipal AMI deployments.
5. Meets with current Members to obtain feedback and relays feedback to executive management along with recommendations to improve the program.
6. Manages and supervises all Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) operations and support personnel involved in the operation, support, and maintenance of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS), and AMI Internal systems.
7. Oversees all Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) related deployment activities, which includes managing all partners to ensure successful municipality deployments of AMI within agreed upon timelines.
a. This includes creation of and management of project plans in Microsoft Project or another tool and ensuring success of key milestones in projects.
8. Maintains a current knowledge of standards, work methods, and technologies available to improve the efficiency and safety of operations of multi-tenant AMI/MDM systems.
9. Assures full and complete cooperation of AMI personnel and systems as may be required by all applicable regulatory standards.
10. Analyzes operations to evaluate the performance and to determine areas of cost reduction and program improvement.
11. Supervises and manages support processes for internal and external AMI/MDM/AMP internal systems in order to allow for prompt response and adjudication of complaints, inquiries, and service requests from Members.
12. Confers with Member utility managers as required to convey information concerning established policies and practices and to gather information required as a basis for action.
13. Prepares and recommends budgets needed for AMI/MDM and related AMP Internal system upgrades and ongoing operations, maintenance, and capital projects and participates in meetings to determine the department's capital and operating budget requirements.
14. Weekend and off peak hours implementations are part of the work duties, as well as being part of a rotating 24x7 on-call support team.
15. Performs others duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:
1. Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. MBA or MS in Engineering or Engineering Management preferred.
2. Must be a detail and process oriented, innovative, self-starting, hands-on technology professional that is able to work with minimal supervision.
3. Experience working within an enterprise IT department.
4. Experience working in an electric utility.
5. Proven ability to lead multi-discipline teams of engineers, analysts, and operators.
6. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.
7. Knowledge of electric power generation facility types and power system operations.
8. General business and financial calculation knowledge.
9. Effective Project Management skills.
10. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
11. Ability to communicate with various Members to understand their needs and translate them into a scope of work that meets their desired outcomes.
12. Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.
13. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
14. Ability to manage complex systems integrations.
15. Ability to work with existing and new clients to identify new projects, articulate to the clients our ability to perform those projects, and translate that into the sale of consulting services.
16. Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.
17. Experience with utility operational systems such as:
a. Outage Management System (OMS).
b. Automated Meter Reading (AMR).
c. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
d. Meter Data Management System (MDM).
e. Distribution Automation (DA) and distribution management system (DMS) technologies/networks/devices/implementation.
f. Customer Information Systems (CIS) .
g. Utility billing systems with multiple service types including electric, water, and gas.
18. Experience with the utility meter to cash process.
19. 7+ years of related professional experience.
