Title:Adolescent Fatality Prevention CoordinatorLocation:2 N. Meridian St. Indianapolis IN 46204Interview:WebcamPurpose of Position:This position serves as the Adolescent Fatality Prevention Coordinator withinthe Division of Fatality Review and Prevention (FRP) at the Indiana Departmentof Health (IDOH). The purpose of this position is to develop and support new andongoing fatality prevention initiatives addressing risk factors and preventingchild fatalities in Indiana. FRP has three components: 1. fatality review, 2.data, and 3. prevention, and this position oversees efforts that fall under eachcomponent. This position will focus on public health topics including suicideprevention, bullying prevention, drowning prevention, home safety, and motorvehicle and passenger safety.This position will develop trainings and materials addressing health andwellbeing for vulnerable youth populations to be utilized in schools andafter-school programming. This position will collaborate with family resourcecenters to develop a network of partners and collaborate with local communityinitiatives. This position will lead trainings and presentations focusing onfindings from needs assessments and various other topics relating to reducingchild fatalities. This position will present at conferences throughout the stateand nationwide.Providing technical assistance, training, public speaking, and meetingfacilitation are also important skill requirements of this position. Thisposition will involve contract development, monitoring of federal and statebudgets, annual report and strategic plan writing, and creation of preventioneducation materials. This position contributes to theIDOH/Commission/Office/Division vision, mission, and objectives by facilitatingthe integration of public health and prevention activities to improve the healthof Hoosiers.Essential duties/responsibilities:Connect recommendations and prevention strategies from state and local childfatality review teams relating to schoolsProvide technical assistance to local school districts and health departmentsworking to implement or amend bullying protocolsDevelop evidence-based trauma-informed research strategies while utilizingavailable state and local data to identify target countiesDevelop evaluation protocols for prevention initiativesCreate education and awareness materials, including brochures and other visualmaterialsFacilitate prevention meetings in local communities throughout the stateRequest state and local data from IDOH epidemiologistsReport local prevention initiatives to the Statewide Child Fatality ReviewCommitteeCollaborate with existing community action and prevention teams to addresscurrent school policiesProvide trainings on developing recommendations and turning data into action tolocal fatality review teamsCreate awareness around bereavement services for local communitiesPublic speaking on prevention strategies and initiativesCreate tools for community outreach and empowermentPresent at state and national conferencesDevelop external and internal partnershipsProvide prevention education resources to local partners; these resourcesinclude webinars, infographics, brochures, and other materialsMaintain contacts and maps for prevention coalitions statewideDevelop innovative prevention strategies to target at-risk childhood populationsCollaborate with injury prevention partners throughout the stateApply for external funding to support prevention initiativesDevelop and maintain program policies and proceduresCoordinate day-to-day program activitiesGenerate reports, including annual reports and strategic plansWork with data staff to maintain accurate database of child suicide and overdosedeathsAttend training to stay up to date on current literature and recommendationsAttend meetings with external partnersIdentify new opportunities for partnershipsProvide technical assistance to teams on implementation and sustainabilityEncourage cross collaboration to achieve state, IDOH, and FRP goals andobjectivesProvide technical assistance on goal setting, project planning, and behavioralchange theoryResearch and address disparities in child suicidesChampion an equity-driven approach to program improvementCollaborate with the Department of Education and other state agencies to ensurea coordinated approachRespond to program requests from IDOH leadershipPerform other duties as assignedJob requirements:Knowledge of Indiana's public health system and fatality review processesAbility to facilitate meetingsAbility to engage communitiesAbility to train large groupsAbility to develop educational materialsKnowledge of the organization and function of state and local public healthagenciesAbility to coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with otherprogram stakeholders in both the private and public sectorsAbility to evaluate and interpret dataAbility to maintain confidentiality with protected informationDemonstrated ability to work independently to complete tasksDemonstrated ability to coordinate with a team for joint projectsDemonstrated experience with managing multiple ongoing projects whilesuccessfully completing work assignmentsDemonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet program deadlinesProficient in the use of Microsoft Office Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Publisher, orAccessSupervisory responsibilities:This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.Difficulty of work:Employee must think critically and have the analytical ability to develop andenhance systems to acquire the best strategies for prevention. Employee must beable to work within program guidelines and within established time frames.Employee must be able to work well independently and know when to solicitadvice/assistance from Director. Employee must be flexible and adaptable topolicy changes and must be able to use sound judgment and decision-makingability to make appropriate recommendations.This position requires significant attention to detail and the ability to workwith internal and external partners. The incumbent must also be able to resolveproblems, logically develop ideas, interpret policy, and have superb oral andwritten skills.This position requires travel to meetings statewide and for engagement work incommunities.Responsibility:Incumbent has high level responsibility for ensuring compliance with state andfederal grant requirements and adherence to IDOH and FRP goals and objectives.The position will serve as the program’s liaison to schools, mental healthproviders, related family service providers and agencies, as well as to civicgroups, advocates, and consumers. This position will be responsible forfacilitating community meetings and developing written reports, grant proposals,and other documentation pertaining to prevention programs.This position reports to the Fatality Prevention Programs Director of theFatality Review and Prevention Division. Employee will keep Director informedregarding matters that may impact the goals, vision, and mission of the program.Employee will receive instruction from supervisor, but independent judgment iscritical to efficient daily operations. Employee must follow the programpolicies and procedures and manage their time to complete assignments withinestablished timeframes. Employee will apply HIPAA policies where applicable andmaintain confidentiality when communicating with program partners.Personal work relationships:Employee will interact in a professional manner with Director, co-workers,department staff, and other agency and professional staff. Incumbent works withDivision staff, Community Action Team members, and public, state, and federalrepresentatives, and other stakeholders in the public and private sector for thepurpose of developing and monitoring effective development of prevention programactivities.Physical effort:Position is primarily a desk job. However, statewide travel is required.Requires extensive computer use and ability to be mobile in small, confinedspaces. The incumbent must be able to lift and transport boxes and educationmaterials.Working conditions:Work is performed in a HIPAA covered, limited access office environment thatcontains a constant and moderate level of background phone conversation.Incumbent must be able to concentrate under these conditions. Significantin-state travel is required. Working directly with communities is required.
