About the Job
· Works to maximize facility census, implement an effective streamlined admissions process on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis, and ensure a high level of resident satisfaction. · Screens potential admissions to the facility for the following: level of care appropriateness, financial payment source, length of stay (short- or long-term care), and mental illness or mental retardation criteria. · Documents all inquiries on appropriate forms. Performs follow-up on all inquiries that have not yet converted to admissions. Attends meetings as assigned by Director of Admissions. · Maintains statistics for monthly Resident Flow Analysis. · Conducts admissions counseling and tours with potential residents, families, and/or responsible parties. Advises residents and/or families of admission requirements as established by the facility and health maintenance organizations. · Ensures proper completion, signing, and distribution of paperwork. Able to expedite assessment and admissions process in an assertive manner. Completes financial assessment of new admissions to facility. · Assist in providing advance notification to department heads regarding appropriate preparation and follow-ups for admissions (both new admissions and re-admits). · Assembles admissions and sales packets. · Ensures that resident’s room is clean and prepared appropriately before arrival. · Meets with family and resident on day of admission to welcome them and introduce to nursing staff on unit. Follows up with a visit at the close of the day. · Gathers appropriate information regarding residents and is responsible for the completion of residents’ social history to be kept in the clinical record. · Participates, as assigned, with two-week resident satisfaction survey, if applicable in facility. · Assists in development and coordination of facility marketing plan. · Assist in ensuring that the facility adheres to legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes. · Puts resident service first: ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights. Education: High school degree or equivalent. Certificate/Licenses: None. Work Experience: One year of admissions experience in a long-term care setting. Freedom from illegal use of drugs, and freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. Able to communicate effectively with staff members, other professional staff, consultants, and residents in interdisciplinary care setting, and to government agencies. Sufficient knowledge of personnel policies and ability to perform personnel functions including interviewing prospective staff members, conducting performance evaluations, and carrying out disciplinary actions when appropriate. Able to apply personnel policies to facts concerning job actions without regard to race, sex, national origin, religion, or disability. Carries out all duties in accord with the facility mission and philosophy. Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information. Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property. Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of facility. Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instruction in case of emergency. Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times, and to assist, transfer, or otherwise move residents of facility out of danger in case of emergency. Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with facility policies on attendance and punctuality and dress code. Able to arrive and to begin work on time and to respond to facility needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through on-call availability or delegation. Demonstrates ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete projects within allotted time. Able to respond to change productively and to handle additional projects as delegated. Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others.
PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS: • Successful performance of essential functions can best be achieved through consistent application of current knowledge, use of good judgment, common sense, ability to establish and carry out priorities, effective use of interpersonal skills and ongoing communication with residents, staff, families, interdisciplinary team members, and government officers, including state surveyors and ombudsmen. • This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an infinite, 24 hour residential care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: shift rotation, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in the nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff. • Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and sitting. To meet residents' needs, virtually all positions require the ability to move freely through the building. Stooping, bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands may be required as described in the Essential Physical Demands of this position. |
