The George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs and one of the largest schools of international affairs in the United States. The Elliott School of International Affairs’ Office of Graduate Admissions is seeking an Admissions Coordinator to assist the office in recruiting and enrolling qualified candidates. The Admissions Coordinator will interact daily with prospective students through email, phone, and in-person. The candidate will be responsible for processing prospects and applications, data entry into multiple databases, event support and administrative assistance.
This position provides customer service to candidates and manages the prospective student relationship from the prospect stage through enrollment stage. The core responsibilities of this role are typically to answer routine inquiries over the phone, online, and in person, to provide information to prospective students on basic academic program offerings and admission requirements, to process and track new applications (and review for completeness), to maintain data in systems, to prepare for and participate in admissions events that represent the Admissions function, like interview days and visits, and to maintain schedules. This position may also recruit for and schedule interviews, order catering, process payments and provide general admissions support.
Responsibilities and duties include:
- Interacts daily with prospective and admitted students answering their questions through email, telephone, and face-to-face.
- Processes application materials received online and in hard copy and enters relevant information into admissions databases.
- Supervise student worker performance
- Maintains the office calendar and supplies, and provides other administrative support, including event registration and travel planning
- Assists with organizing, planning and implementing on and off campus events such as information sessions, open houses, graduate fairs and receptions. Serves as presenter for weekly information sessions.
- Some presence at evenings events will be required.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. This is a hybrid position with some days remote and some days in the office in Washington, DC.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated interest in higher education and previous work experience in a university setting are preferred
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication (both written and oral), and cross cultural skills
- Comfort with standard business software—Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.
- Knowledge of and some experience with, and strong interest in learning databases—Salesforce, Slate and Banner is highly desired.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects at once.
- Demonstrated time management skills
