The Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County seeks an Administrative Specialist III to work as a Youth Specialist. This person will perform professional comprehensive work with moderate responsibility, complexity, related to youth development, programming and services. The person we seek must have a passion for working with children and youth and deliver meaningful and impactful programming to the community. Should have the ability to establish trust and cultivate meaningful and collaborative relationships with children, youth, young adults, families and coworkers. This is the ideal position for a team player who is positive, energetic and motivated by caring for and working with children of all ages. An ideal candidate for this position, must have a genuine interest in working with children and youth and have previous experience with youth program implementation including; caring for children in a formal setting, day camps, youth development, recreation programming, coaching or instructing youth. Enjoys balancing multiple priorities and takes initiate to get things done and solve problem creatively, have well developed detail orientation, administration and computer skills and is able to tackle everyday paperwork, reporting and evaluations that help ensure ongoing program success.
Employees in this class are responsible for the assisting with youth development programming countywide. Planning and coordinating with other divisions and upper management for recreation programs, cultural and environmental programs, and park events is a significant aspect of the work. Incumbents will work closely with subordinate career staff to monitor and evaluate day-to-day operations and personnel as well as represent the department in meetings with other agencies and citizens. Position includes recruiting, hiring, supervision, evaluation and scheduling of intermittent (seasonal) staff and volunteers. Assist with training and onboarding of staff.
Also requires a moderate degree of expertise in the areas of recreation, program quality assessment, and youth development. Performs other related duties as assigned.
