About the Job
The position is with the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners and requires varied and complex investigative, correspondence, analysis, and reporting tasks under direct supervision. The tasks primarily relate to investigations of applicants for admission to the Pennsylvania bar. Secondary responsibilities are related to the semi-annual administration of the bar exam.

Typical Duties
- Review applications and apply initial rating to all bar applicants.
- Independently certify and execute certification of all qualified applicants. Ensure applicants meet court rule requirements. Summarize applications of unqualified applicants or ambiguously qualified applicants, preparing them for review by lead investigator and executive director.
- Review disclosures by applicants and perform investigation per board policy. Exercise judgment in assessing possible undisclosed issues and in making inquiries for information.
- Monitor multiple communication channels (e.g., phone mail, email, fax, electronic uploads) to receive and process incoming application, amendments, disclosures, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor multiple communication channels to field questions from bar applicants, responding or forwarding as appropriate.
- Conduct initial interviews with employers, disciplinary authorities, credit reporting agencies, and other third-party sources as needed.
- Keep specific, detailed computerized records, recording all findings and accounts of communications in the Board’s specialized software.
- Compile all gathered data and documentation to analyze applications to assess character and fitness for bas admission and determine eligibility per Pennsylvania Bar Admission Rules.
- Report to supervisor on time management and progress.
- Assist in general clerical office functions, including opening mail as part of assigned rotation. Perform any special projects as requested by supervisor.
- Semi-annually supervise administration of the bar exam at one of two exam sites. Coordinate and supervise proctors. Interact and coordinate with convention center staff to ensure correct site setup and that appropriate testing conditions are maintained.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all information.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR
- High school diploma and extensive experience in an investigation field.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training may be considered.
Physical Requirements/Supervision
- Semi-annual administration of the bar exam requires doing light manual labor to pack and unpack materials; performing set-up and tear-down at the exam site; walking 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day at exam site; lifting/moving items up to 20 pounds; standing for long periods of time and bending to the floor. Travel to the bar exam requires the ability to drive up to 4 hours to Lancaster, Philadelphia, or Pittsburgh.
- The employee is expected to work independently and exercise judgement to effectively prioritize and multitask. Management of exam site will require independent decision-making skills and accountability outside of immediate supervision.
Additional Qualifications/Preferences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general computer use required.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- In-state travel (reimbursed) including overnight stays required.
- Satisfactory criminal background check required.

45,000 - 55,000 /year
