About the Job
PURPOSE:
This is a Non-Tenure Track Adjunct position in the GIS Certificate program. Primary expectations include teaching undergraduate courses (as assigned) in online formats. Adjuncts must have the credentials necessary to teach GIS courses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to plan and prepare course content and curriculum, utilizing assessment and effective methodologies of instruction for the enhancement of learning.
- Collaborate with other faculty members for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Provide appropriate classroom and online instruction for students enrolled in assigned GIS course(s).
- Maintain expertise in the field of study and teaching pedagogy by attending seminars, workshops, and classes for self-improvement and/or professional enhancement.
- Desired discipline-specific teaching with a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness.
- Commitment to the philosophy and outcomes of the GIS Certificate and Security Sciences Institute framework within which the certificate is offered. Maintain professional development activities.
- Maintain positive relationships within the University and in the larger community.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge and skills related to teaching students in class and online.
- Teaching experience in methodology, curriculum development, evaluation, or willingness to plan for acquisition of
these skills no later than the first year of teaching. - Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, and detailed-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- The ability to teach in a diverse population of students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light sedentary office work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
