Overall Objectives of Position
The Addiction Recovery Assistant is responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals within the addiction recovery process offering hope, optimism, mentorship, and encouragement. The Addictions Recovery Assistant is also responsible for performing duties as established in each client’s treatment plan, for documenting appropriately as required and for following all policies and procedures of the applicable programs and the sober living facility. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Addiction Recovery Assistant is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the objectives of applicable programs.
The Addiction Recovery Assistant is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.
Primary Responsibilities of the Addiction Recovery Assistant
- Provides individualized ongoing guidance, coaching and support to clients in recovery.
- Assists clients in obtaining services that suit the clients’ recovery needs by providing available community resources, support groups and treatment options to include aftercare services and programs.
- Assists the treatment staff in developing a recovery plan based on the client’s identified goals and needs.
- Advocates on behalf of clients with substance abuse problems.
- Offers encouragement to clients in the recovery process in times of crisis.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Develops a collaborative relationship with the treatment team, monitors the progress of clients and communicates findings in thorough detailed reports to the treatment team ensuring that all required documentation and reports are completed accurately and timely.
- Plans, facilitates, and oversees coordination for daily, weekly, monthly events or outings in an effort to engage clients and residents in socialization, and recreational activities.
- Enforcement of Sober House rules and maintaining a drug and alcohol-free safe environment within the sober living house including serving as back up when needed to the Resident Assistants.
- Maintains strict confidentiality rules when dealing with clients and other agencies and adheres to all guidelines and regulations related to confidentiality.
- Identifies the early warning signs of addiction relapse and assists clients with recognizing the signs and reaching out for support.
- Transports clients to inpatient treatment programs and serves as a liaison to families of clients in inpatient treatment and through the recovery process.
- Participates and attends support meetings alongside clients and recruits’ participation in treatment/support programs within the community and provides transportation to clients to treatment/support programs as needed.
- Leads AA/NA meetings and other support meetings as requested.
- Assists the Addictions Counselor, and other team members in implementing a treatment/recovery plan.
- Makes supply orders and grocery pickups for the treatment program and sober living house as needed.
- Prepares homecooked meals for residents at least twice a month which requires obtaining supplies, preparation of the meal and clean up.
- Assists with implementing various support, treatment, prevention, and aftercare programs.
- Assists the Sober Living Manager in supervising the resident daily chores and performs custodial duties as necessary including washing bedding, sweeping, vacuuming, washing dishes, etc. as requested.
- Cross trained to aid the Employment Recovery Program including the supervision of ER participants while performing job assignments.
- Provides transportation for clients to medical appointments, interviews, support meetings, counseling, and treatment appointments and/or various other activities as directed.
- Performs Case Management duties including assisting clients with making appointments, completing employment applications, locating assistance programs, completing applications or other correspondence as needed.
- Provides clerical support functions for the Addictions Counselor, Substance Abuse Treatment Coordinator or other staff as directed including filing, retrieving case files and reference materials or other clerical support functions as needed.
Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Personal experience or knowledge of the addiction recovery process or a 12-step program preferred.
- Personal experience or knowledge of residential facilities preferred.
- Experience working with clients who are attempting to break the cycle of drugs and/or alcohol dependency preferred.
- CPR Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire required.
- Must be clean and sober for at least two (2) years and actively engaged in AA/NA or related sobriety support program/services.
- Must be “ServSafe Certified” or obtain with thirty (30) days of employment.
Skills Required
- Must be trustworthy and possess a high level of maturity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must have basic working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, outlook, etc.
- Must possess the skills, knowledge, and experience to perform duties including the ability to enforce rules that could result in sanctions including incarceration of residents.
- Must be an organized and a proficient time manager.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing as well as maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families and co-workers.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work odd and irregular work hours including weekends and holidays.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines - CDL Preferred.
- Ability to travel and participate in required training to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs.
- Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
- Must meet suitability requirements and successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
