The opportunity
TechnologyAdvice is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Ad Operations Manager! This person will be responsible for managing the Ad Operations team and supporting all aspects of digital advertising at TechnologyAdvice.
Leading the Ad Operations team provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced B2B tech environment. You'll leverage your deep domain knowledge to devise practical strategies that drive our advertising product revenue and digital monetization across our diverse portfolio of websites. In addition, you'll collaborate with a large, distributed sales and marketing team to create tailored advertising programs and opportunities that will appeal to tech companies of all sizes.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of advertising concepts, terminology, and technology, and will be well-versed in the B2B digital media landscape. They will exhibit effective leadership and have an enthusiastic, professional demeanor. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a client-oriented setting and will possess a strong analytical and problem-solving ability. The ideal candidate will foster team growth by providing mentorship, development guidance, and career planning tailored to individual team members.
What you'll do
As the Ad Operations Manager, your primary responsibility is evaluating and optimizing the performance of the Ad Operations team. This entails providing clear guidance, support for day-day problems and challenges, and coaching the team to work thoughtfully, independently and productively. In addition, you will be responsible for our overall digital advertising monetization and support strategy, working with sales, deal desk, product, and engineering for all digital advertising programs and products.
- Team Leadership
- Attract, retain, develop and motivate the team
- Provide regular coaching and performance feedback
- Create career development paths and succession planning for all team members
- Conduct and delegate trainings to ensure programs are delivered accurately and client expectations are met on every campaign
- Stay up-to-date with the latest ad technology, terminology, and changes in the market
- Effectively communicate as the subject matter expert on AdOps technologies and present to internal and external teams, such as clients, programmatic traders, and partners
- Flexibility to be available or respond to communication after-hours as needed to support our global sales and client success teams
- Program Setup, QA, and Delivery
- Oversee the implementation and execution of all advertising program processes
- Ensure all booked revenue is recognized while campaign objectives are consistently exceeded
- Provide timely feedback to team members on the accuracy and quality of program setup
- Conduct regular audits to ensure company/team standards are consistently being met
- Oversee quality control processes for advertising and provide direction and support for team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Ensure workflows and processes are defined, documented, maintained, and followed
- Conduct ongoing process improvements and set relevant policies for the team
- Vendor Management
- Evaluate advertising platforms and vendors on a regular basis to ensure the right tools and partners are in place to support company priorities
- Manage billing and costs associated with vendors and advertising media buys
- Ad Technology Implementation
- Oversee new ad tech & data provider implementations in the ad stack
- Manage ad server migrations/implementations and delegate projects to team members
- QA ads on staging environments to ensure behaviors and features work properly
- Build data structures to maximize business intelligence and ad targeting capabilities
- Maximize first-party data usage in audience creation and campaign optimizations
- Monitor the health and data hygiene of ad operations and related systems
- Work with engineering to troubleshoot ad-tech-related issues for clients and websites
- Sales, Client Success, and Product Collaboration
- Work with sales and client success teams to evaluate potential opportunities, provide inventory capacity, campaign recommendations, and performance feedback
- Work with the product team to ensure product offerings align with capabilities and needs, and collaborate to introduce new ad formats and products
- Ensure alignment between sales and ad operations by managing team expectations
- Interpret, analyze and make recommendations against advertising metrics
- Resolve all escalations pertaining to advertising programs and team members
Who you are
- 5+ years experience in a technical or ad ops role in an online environment required
- Previous experience managing others required
- In-depth knowledge of the digital advertising ecosystem, including ad-serving platforms, DSPs, SSPs, DMPs, and programmatic advertising
- Familiarity with Digital Advertising industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrable knowledge of programmatic advertising and marketplaces required
- Demonstrable knowledge of advertising/marketing techniques and tactics required
- Familiarity with 3rd party ad technologies and basic ad tag HTML + Javascript required
- Proven history of driving results and optimizing campaign performance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent time management, planning, and collaboration skills
- High level of initiative, self-direction, and accountability
- Ability to express observations clearly with supporting facts, assess alternative options, and encourage their acceptance
- Previous experience at an ad agency, publisher, or ad network preferred
- Graphic design and copywriting experience preferred
- Agile professional who excels in a fast-paced environment and thrives on continuously pivoting strategies to drive business needs forward
