Activity Director JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and implement activities on the units and on community outings with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, facility established policies and procedures to assure that an on-going program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being of each resident is maintained.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with patients, residents, and their families.
- Develop an activity program based upon the identified interests, which also complies with all Federal and State regulations for Activities.
- Supervision and evaluation of the Activity Assistant and Activity Aides.
- Responsible for the scheduling and payroll monitoring of the Activity Department.
- Complete and oversee completion of all required documentation such as, but not limited to the MDS, RAPs, care plans, interest surveys and progress notes.
- In collaboration with the Activity Assistant -hiring, orientation, supervision and ensures yearly completion of 10 contact hours of training for the Activity Assistants.
- Complete and oversee development (as well as evaluation) of the programming and calendar development based upon interests, functioning and specialty program.
- Assist with the development of the budget, oversees expenses.
- Complete and oversee the purchase of supplies for the programming.
- Community Outings –planning and evaluation of the outing process.
- Large social events (major holidays).
- Implement a 1:1 Visiting Program (for those not able or engaged in group programming).
- Participate in care plan meetings.
- Participate in facility and department meetings.
- Assist in dining room.
- Ensure the Activity Assistant conducts and is compliance with the regulations related to Resident Council.
- Contact new residents within seventy-two (72) hours of admission and interview.
- Complete current calendars of events posted on the Activity boards on each wing and in resident rooms.
Qualifications:
The Activity Director must be an occupational therapist or therapy assistant, or therapeutic recreation specialist; or have two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years preceding date of hire, one of which was full time in a patient activities program; or be eligible for certification by a recognized accrediting body as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional or have completed at least 90 hours of training covering activities programs from a technical or vocational school, college, university or other educational institutions
