ACTIVITY ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
Position/Shift Available: FULL-TIME. The position is for Tues- Sat.
MEPAP Certification preferred
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Activity Director’s Assistant in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Activity Programs
- Assist with the transportation of residents to and from activities and scheduled medical appointments.
- Assist with carrying out scheduled activities within and outside the facility.
- Serve on various committees of the facility as may be appointed by the Activity Team Leader.
- Assist the Activity Director’s Assistant in developing and implementing policies and procedures for identifying the spiritual, social, recreational and emotional needs of the residents.
- Assure that established safety regulations are followed at all times.
- Assist the Activity Director’s Assistant with the Coordination of the volunteer programs (recruit, interview, select, train, etc).
- Be knowledgeable regarding individual resident’s history, preferences, precautions, and other pertinent relevant information.
- Compile and maintain an activity schedule, calendar of events, available projects, crafts, resources, etc. and assure that the schedule is maintained for each resident.
- Keep areas clean at all times and be knowledgeable and responsible for maintaining activity supplies, materials, and decorations.
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES
EDUCATION
MEPAP Certification preferred
Must possess, as a minimum, a High School Diploma/GED.
Education related to activities needs of the elderly, disabled, and people with a history of abuse is preferred.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of MDS standards.
LICENSURE
Clean Driving Record: must possess valid OH drivers license to transport residents to and from off-site activities.
EXPERIENCE
Experience working in long-term care is preferred
Must have aptitude for and some training in arts and crafts
Possess ability to plan, organize, and provide leadership
Possess ability to initiate new programs and problem solve when needed
Able to interact positively with community resources and to coordinate programs
Ability to use basic computer skills (email, documentation, flyers, etc.)
Ability to drive the facility bus, use lift and other functions to transport residents
