The Activities Assistant will support the Activities Director in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for nursing home residents. The role aims to enhance residents' physical, emotional, and social well-being, promoting an engaging and enriching environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Activity Planning: Support the Activities Director in planning, coordinating, and executing a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, physical exercises, music sessions, and social events.
- Engage Residents: Actively participate with residents during activities, ensuring they are engaged, comfortable, and enjoying themselves.
- Provide Individual and Group Activities: Lead or assist in one-on-one activities for residents who cannot participate in group settings, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met.
- Monitor Resident Participation: Track and document resident participation in activities, noting preferences and changes in physical or cognitive abilities.
- Maintain Safe Environment: Ensure activities are conducted in a safe environment and follow all health and safety guidelines. Assist with setting up and cleaning up activity spaces.
- Provide Emotional Support: Build relationships with residents, offering companionship and emotional support. Encourage residents to participate in activities and help boost morale.
- Collaborate with Team: Work closely with nursing staff, other assistants, and families to understand residents’ needs and preferences for more personalized activity planning
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience working with elderly individuals, particularly those in long-term care settings, is a plus.
- Passion for working with seniors and a commitment to improving their quality of life.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to be patient, empathetic, and flexible when working with residents.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be physically able to assist with activities that may require lifting or mobility assistance.
Working Conditions:
- May involve working evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate resident schedules and special events.
- Ability to work in a healthcare environment with varying levels of noise and potential exposure to infectious materials.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time may be required.
