Summary: The Accounting Supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of a company's accounting department. They oversee transactions, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and the general ledger. They also manage compliance, including sales tax and annual filings. Accounting supervisors ensure compliance with company regulations and state laws, and support month-end and year-end closings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Hands on responsibility for daily accounting operations, which include accounts payable and receivable, general ledger accounting and compliance
- Supervises team of 2-4 people to assure that the department accomplishes accounting objectives by selecting, onboarding, assigning, managing, and mentoring employees
- Recruits and hires accounting staff and conducts performance evaluations
- Ensuring all accounting practices are following legal guidelines and established accounting principles
- Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff
- Assist with Annual Audits
- Working with the company financial team to create internal controls and policies
Education/Training/Experience:
- Degree in Accounting required, CPA is a plus
- Ideal candidate has 5-7+ years of progressive work experience including as a staff accountant and supervisor of A/P and A/R function in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to identify areas in need of improvement, develop a plan of action, and deliver results.
- Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and implementing accounting and financial reporting standards.
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to research and apply accounting pronouncements as appropriate.
- Oracle and Epicor experience preferred; large scale ERP experience required.
- Multi-site experience preferred.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills to work effectively in a team environment within and outside of the Accounting Department.
