Summary:
The Accounting Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Director of Finance by maintaining financial data integrity, generating accurate financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles. In addition to data analysis and financial reporting, this position will be relied upon to help manage day-to-day accounting operations, including cutting checks, month-end closing, and providing timely financial information to stakeholders across development, programs, and human resources. The candidate should have experience with Sage Accounting (or similar systems) and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where multitasking and prioritization are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, payroll, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Maintain financial records in accordance with GAAP and internal controls, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including balance sheets (statements of financial position), income statements (statements of operations), and cash flow projections, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in annual budget preparation and monthly budget variance analysis.
- Reconcile bank, investment, and credit card accounts, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation.
- Support the preparation of documents and schedules for audits and ensure timely submission of audit requests.
- Provide data modeling and analysis to support financial decision-making, including creating custom reports and dashboards using Excel and other software tools.
- Â Maintain and update the chart of accounts and vendor and customer accounts in the Sage accounting system.
- Assist when needed in preparing budgets and information for the grant-writing process.
- Collaborate with various departments, including development, programs, and operations, to ensure proper revenue allocation and timely financial reporting.
- Assist in the implementation of improved accounting processes and internal controls to enhance operational efficiency.
- Complete other tasks and duties as assigned in support of the Community Health Trust mission.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field and/or 2+ years of working experience in accounting or finance.
- Non-profit work experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Sage Accounting or a similar system.
- Advanced skills in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data modeling.
- Experience with MS Access and data analysis software is a plus.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A self-starter with the ability to lead projects and collaborate with team members effectively.
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges, with a proactive approach to professional development.

Work Environment:
- Approximately 75% of the time performing job duties is spent indoors, within a standard office or clinic environment.
- Approximately 30%-70% of the time is spent on the computer.
- Approximately 50%-70 of the time is spent interacting with colleagues and members of the community.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The temperature of the work environment is moderate, and ranges from 65 - 80 degrees.
Travel Requirements:
