About the Role
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our client’s innovative team. A leading network of community development financial institutions (CDFIs) empowers underserved communities by expanding access to capital and financial services. They drive economic justice through training, advocacy, and support for initiatives that promote sustainable growth and social impact. In this role, you will support the day-to-day financial operations by managing accounting activities, ensuring data accuracy, and contributing to financial reporting. You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain compliance and support the organization’s financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timely payments.
Reconcile bank statements and financial records to maintain up-to-date accounting data.
Process invoices, expense reports, and payroll transactions accurately.
General Accounting
Prepare journal entries and assist in maintaining the general ledger.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring deadlines are met.
Assist in preparing financial reports, statements, and analysis for management.
Compliance & Auditing
Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulations.
Assist with audits by preparing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Monitor and enforce internal controls to protect the organization’s financial integrity.
Collaboration & Process Improvement
Work closely with other departments to resolve financial discrepancies and provide accounting support.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes for greater efficiency.
Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations to ensure compliance.
Qualifications and Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper) are a plus.
Experience
Proven years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on accounts payable and receivable.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Soft Skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication skills to work with teams and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
