Accounting Specialist
Description of Position
The Accounting Specialist assists the Chief Financial Officer in administering the business affairs of the district to provide the most audit-compliant, cost-effective and efficient services with the resources available. Assist with managing and directing, records, and documents all personnel information.
Area of Responsibility
Duties include but not limited to the following:
- Keeps records of financial transactions using the district accounting software
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget control process
- Research questions relating to the business and financial affairs of the district.
- Assist with supervision of the financial affairs of the schools including independent special projects as assigned.
- Oversee selected administrative tasks of Accounting/Personnel operations areas.
- Assists in year-end close and reporting
- Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees
- Prepare bank transfers to appropriate funds for claim dockets and payroll
- Assist CFO with gathering all documentation prior to board meeting for personnel agenda
- Prepare District insurance renewals (Workers’ Comp, liability, property, and Athletics)
- Process Workers Compensation Claims
- Receive and respond to FMLA requests and donated leave requests
- Prepare and schedule background checks and staff drug testing
- Prepares monthly balance reports for distribution to each administrator and department bookkeeper
- Maintain files on past employees
- Prepares retirement forms for retiring employees
- Assist in planning recruitment fair
- Assist with planning open enrollment and new employee orientation
- Assist with Education Enhancement Fund Program
- Receipt and maintain district, federal programs, student activity, and food service accounts revenue into the district accounting software
- Manage SBAC reporting
- Assist with MSIS Personnel
- Assist with preparing work calendars, salary schedules, benefit/cafeteria plan or contract portions
- Update job descriptions and evaluation forms as needed
- Must serve as backup in time of need when accounting staff is out on extended leave
- Provide information and service to IRS, auditors, PERS, and insurance carriers
- Assist with overseeing internal controls of the Accounting Office (AP, AR, and Payroll)
- Support all departments with Accounting and/or Financial service operations
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/CFO
Supervisory/Program Areas
Accounting Office personnel as requested by Chief Financial Officer
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree business/accounting program required
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Three years of work experience in a public school business operations or public school accounting
- Preferably School Accounting
- Such other qualifications may be set by the Chief Financial Officer or Superintendent
