About the Job
Chicago Music Exchange is seeking a seasoned accounting professional. The main responsibilities of this role include daily reconciliation of sales revenue, contributing to month-end close processes, entering payables and reconciliation of vendor bills against purchase orders. This role also serves as a crucial support to our sales team, troubleshooting system issues and maintaining digital files.
It is important to note that this isn’t a typical corporate accounting environment. We have an open office and casual culture filled with music loving people. Our ideal candidate has a love of music, and has the skills to handle the unpredictable nature of retail along with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or a minimum of 4 years experience in a similar role.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Perform daily reconciliation of sales revenue (Accounts Receivable)
- Process reconciliation of vendor invoices against purchase orders (Accounts Payable / Accrued Purchases)
- Contribute to the month-end close process
- Manage prepaid expenses and conduct monthly reconciliations
- Proactively troubleshoot system issues related to payments or channel sales
- Provide assistance to the sales team with accounting issues as needed
- Execute billing for purchase orders using a 3-way match
- Prepare month-end journal entries
- Efficiently process vendor payments and conduct check runs
- Conduct thorough research on variances to ensure financial integrity
- Ensure proper approval, coding, and matching of vendor bills
- Maintain digital files meticulously for easy retrieval and reference
- Correspond with vendor and internal departments as needed
- Perform bank account maintenance and conduct regular reconciliations
- Land shipping costs
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve and streamline existing processes.
- Handle cash efficiently, ensuring accurate reconciliation of till (cash drawer) reports.
- Undertake various general accounting as needed
Skills/Experience/Attributes Required: (this section typically only used in job posts)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, and/or the equivalent of a minimum of 4 years related experience
- A solid understanding of Accounting Principles / GAAP
- Software strengths include; Excel, G-Suite, Accounting software (preferably Netsuite) API and cloud-based environments.
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Experience with retail and multi-channel sales
- Mac Proficiency
- Upbeat personality and a positive attitude
- Reliability and punctuality a must
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to focus well in a fast paced and sometimes, loud environment. (This is not a typical accounting environment)
- Proactive, organized self-starter that has the ability to learn and adapt to changes quickly
Additional Info and Benefits
- Full time position, based out of our store location. Please note this is not a remote position.
- Schedule is Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm with an hour for lunch
