Summary
This role is part of the U.S. Controllership team, reporting to the Associate Director, North America Accounting. It is a temporary position providing backfill for day-to-day accounting work, allowing existing team members to focus on an enterprise-wide system implementation project. The position will last at least one year from the hiring date, with a possible extension based on future needs.
The position involves responsibility for U.S. accounting and collaboration across different teams and functions. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to facilitate and bridge accounting with individuals outside the Accounting Organization.
The team values flexibility, excellence, integrity, and work-life balance. A hybrid work model is offered, with in-person work on Tuesday and Thursday at the San Rafael campus, and remote work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review fixed assets/capital projects accounting, including reviewing/approving requisitions related to fixed assets, reviewing mass asset additions, CIP asset confirmations, asset placement in service, retirements, and managing the fixed asset subledger in Oracle. Prior fixed asset accounting experience is required, and Oracle EBS Asset responsibility experience is a plus.
- Prepare/review vendor contracts to determine the proper U.S. GAAP accounting, interpret complex transactions, and prepare contract templates.
- Prepare and review journal entries such as prepaid addition and prepaid amortization, expense accruals, and other journals as applicable.
- Prepare/review balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Prepare/review flux analysis and commentary to explain business activities.
- Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of income statements and balance sheets with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
- Complete 10-Q and 10-K requests for submission to the External Reporting team.
- Support both internal and external audits and ensure SOX control compliance.
- Build strong partnerships and collaboration with business partners and within the finance organization to understand business activities and provide accounting advice.
- Seek process improvements and efficiencies to drive synergy across teams and regions.
Experience and Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 6 years' accounting experience in General Ledger Accounting with hands-on GL financial close responsibilities.
- Prior fixed assets and capital projects accounting experience.
- Experience with high volume and complex vendor contract transactions.
Bonus Points:
- Experience in publicly traded company financial accounting and controls.
- Life science/biotech pharma industry experience.
- Experience in Record to Report and Source to Pay processes.
- Proficiency in Excel formulas and data analytics.
- Experience with Oracle EBS and/or SAP ERP systems.
Education
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required or equivalent.
