Job Details
The Accounting Manager will oversee and direct accounting operations in compliance with state regulations, accounting policies, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This role is responsible for ensuring the development and timely delivery of accurate financial reports, including journal entries, account reconciliations, treasury management, job costing, and work-in-progress (WIP) tracking.
Essential Functions
Accounting
- Oversee accounting operations, including control systems, transactions, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Conduct period-end closing, ensuring all checklist items are posted.
- Generate and distribute financial statements for internal and external use.
- Maintain the general ledger through account analysis.
- Prepare trial balances and perform balance sheet reconciliations.
- Serve as an audit liaison for quarterly and annual CPA financial reviews, providing necessary working papers.
- Support year-end tax return preparation and ensure accuracy.
- Monitor bank balances to meet cash disbursement, accounts payable, and payroll obligations.
- Examine and verify fixed assets, recording monthly depreciation.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to revenue, payroll, operating expenses, depreciation, amortization, and month-end accruals in compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Review and post job cost reports and analyses.
- Approve 1099s.
- Conduct weekly reviews of accounts payable and approve payment selections.
- Review, update, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual commission reports.
- Analyze job costs to determine completion status and close jobs on a monthly basis.
- Review contracts in progress and closed jobs while creating work-in-progress reports.
- Prepare financial reports for submission to the Board of Directors by the 10th of each month.
- Handle multi-state tax filings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Payroll
- File state and federal quarterly and annual payroll returns for multiple entities across CA, TX, and WA.
- Calculate and submit worker’s compensation, as well as prepare annual audit documentation.
- Maintain weekly 401K reporting for annual audits.
- Manage payroll audits.
- Review and approve W-2 filings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred).
- 10+ years of accounting experience in a similar role within the manufacturing or construction industry.
- Strong attention to detail while managing multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with QuickBooks, Sage Abra Suite, and Sage MAS 200 (preferred).
- High level of accuracy and thoroughness.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities.
